Friday Fictioneers ~ Nov. 2, 2012

Every Friday authors from around the world gather  to share their 100-words and offer constructive crit and encouragement to each other. This creates a wonderful opportunity for free reading of very fresh fiction! Readers are encouraged to comment as well.

If you would like to read all the short stories please go to Rochelle’s blog here. Here is my contribution! Hope you enjoy.

Gilda smiled at all the people gathered around the tent. She loved her life! Travelling to different places, meeting new people. It never grew old. Sure her feet hurt. But the smiling faces and friendliness of the people gathered made up for a little pain.

She remembered her ‘old’ life. The drinking, the beatings. She certainly didn’t miss that! Was anyone looking for her? Probably. But Gilda smiled, it’s amazing how a name change and a little makeup will  hide the scars. She sold another pair of sunglasses and hummed to herself.

Like the song said, “Earl had to die.”

  1. Nice, happy start and then the knife! 🙂 I forgot to mention last week that I love the photo at the top of your page. Very relaxing.

    1. thank you Janet! The reason I picked my photo on top is because of the relaxing of it. When I get stuck writing I stare at it and it helps. 🙂

  2. Dear Jackie,

Is there a real song that contains those lyrics?

Lovely, well written story. She sounds happy and on the mend and in the perfect, plain sight hiding place. Not that Earl is looking for her or anything.

    Aloha,

    1. Hi Doug,

Yes there is really a song with those lyrics. It’s a tongue in cheek about spousal abuse that was a big hit several years ago by the Dixie Chicks.

Thanks for liking my little piece of fun. Appreciate it.

  3. So glad your character managed to get away (Earl deserved what he got) and is living a new life. Reminds me of the true story I watched last night… ‘The Pastor’s Wife’ on Lifetime Channel. The battered wife, shot her demented, depraved minister husband, grabbed her 3 kids and took off but got caught the next day. After describing what that sicko forced her to do, the jury found her not-guilty. Yippee!! I hope the same freedom for your character.
