Wednesday Comics ~ Sam and Me

Another edition of Wednesday comics featuring my favorite dog…. Sam!

In this one we are visiting Sam’s new vet. She is a very nice lady who clearly loves animals. She’s young and easy to talk to and she listens to me and Sam. Sam actually likes her. Our last vet did not meet our requirements. Both Sam and I are very picky on who gets to examine him. 😉

My groomer and I discussed putting Sam on a sedative when it’s time to get him groomed. He is just so out of control that she is afraid she will inadvertently hurt Sam. He cries and yips like he is being tortured when it’s grooming time. Sam works himself up so much he makes himself sick.

I made an appointment to take Sam to this new vet to get his nails clipped and talk about a sedative. My groomer is a fantastic lady but she couldn’t get Sam to calm down enough to let her clip his nails. Believe me it takes at least 2 – 3 people to hold down this 10 pound dog to get it done. Even with me he is not manageable. He is a tiny bit better with  me because he knows I won’t hurt him, but his fear is so  great that he just goes crazy.

I, of course explained this to the Vet as she is examining him. Sam is being an angel. But wait!

She takes him in the back so an assistant can help her clip his nails. He is quiet and docile. I go to the front to pay the bill and all of a sudden I hear these terrible howls and yips!! I hear Sam!! Is he being beat??? Tortured??? Kicked???? Nope. None of the above.

The young lady at the counter jumps in her seat and smiles nervously at me. I feel sorry for her. I smile reassuringly back and calmly pay the bill.

A few minutes later the Vet comes leading a tail wagging, tongue lagging Sam. She looks at me and says “He started yelping before I even touched him!”

I nodded and told her I figured that. It is what he does to Tammy the groomer. She hands me Sam’s leash and a small vial with a couple of pills in them. They are the sedatives. She understands the situation now completely. She explains how much and when to give Sam the pills. She says he is super healthy and shouldn’t have any problems with them.

For a little dog, Sam delivers a big punch. So to speak. Hopefully with these pills the groomer will be able to do her thing and Sam will be off in la la land chasing butterflies. 🙂

We shall see in July when he is scheduled to be groomed again.

I enjoy reading, writing, and painting. I love animals and at present have one dog (Sam) and 2 cats (brother and sister, Notwen and Pouncer). I've lived in various places in the USA and now in Canada. I've always enjoyed watching life and people and have developed an appreciation for it all. My outlook is sometimes out of the normal.... but that's what makes things so interesting! I am always interested in the opinions of others. Everyone has their own outlook and it's always worthwhile to listen!

    1. I know poor Sam. If he wouldn’t get so bent out of shape it wouldn’t be so bad. But my poor groomer is at her wits end. So the pills. I’m sure I will let you know….comic wise. 😉

    1. Thanks Lois. I hope they work too. Will know in July when he is scheduled to be groomed again.

  1. My dog won’t get anywhere near the vet’s office. The second she realizes we’re parked in front of or even near the vet’s place there is absolutely no getting her out of the car.
    Hope the pills work.
    Cute comic 😉

    1. Thanks! My Sam doesn’t mind the vets as long as no one touches him. haha! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  2. My fiancé wants to get two dogs when we get married. After reading your comics about grooming, I’m going to make sure he takes care of every single aspect of it!

    1. Not all dogs are the way my Sam is. He has had some very bad experiences with groomers when he was a pup. He has never forgotten. Now I’ve got a super groomer but Sam is just so afraid. If you get a pup used to a good groomer (one that won’t hurt them) they can even enjoy it. I got Sam after the damage was done.
