Friday Fictioneers ~~ June 21, 2013

Write a one hundred word story that has a beginning, middle and an end. (No one will be ostracized for going over or under the word count.)

Make every word count.

Another fine edition of Friday Fictioneers. It might be a bit wet, but look around that please. We here in Southern Alberta have lots of flooding. It seems it’s our turn for Mother Nature’s wrath. I’m lucky to have my place on high ground. Others are not that lucky. My good thoughts go out to all those thousands upon thousands of people around here who are flooded or about to be. The rivers haven’t even reached their crest yet. I’m afraid the worse is yet to come.

If you are interested in joining us on Friday Fictioneers, please click on Rochelle’s name and read the few rules we try to go by. If you just want to read some fantastic flash fiction click on her name then scroll down to the cute little blue critter and click on him. He will take you to the land of Oz. Really. Well ok, to the land of great writers. Better?

Here is this week’s picture:

I always wondered what went through these guy’s minds as they stand guard so stoically. This is my tongue in cheek look at it.

Genre: Humor (99 words)

My nose itches, I wonder if I should scratch it?

Better not, brass might be watching.Β

Hey that cloud looks like a Zebra! No, more like a white horse.

I wonder if I fell asleep standing here if I would fall on my bayonet?Β

Oh God here comes another group of tourists. They will try to make me smile, they always do.

The water looks so blue today. Wish I was there to enjoy it. Eh, I have work to do, if you wanna call this work.

Β Now I gots a cramp in me leg. It’ll be good to get off and have a beer. Now I’m thirsty!

  1. That has always looked to me to be the worst job ever. I can’t imagine how sore your back n legs would get, love your comments they echo mine when I see these guys.

  2. Just remembered i’s Friday! have been so busy today, but had to check in here to get my Friday fiction…Great humor! Most of it is true πŸ™‚ This time I can also tell you where the picture actually is from: Stockholm, Sweden, taken outside the Royal Palace! Funny, huh?

    1. Is that where it is? Cool, I bet you’ve been there. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day tiny. I sure appreciate it. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you, but I can sit on my topic, whereas if he sat on his picklehaube it would hurt! πŸ˜‰

        1. My grandmother was 100% German, but I thought she always said it was bad luck to leave a hat on a bed. Maybe for the same reason? Or it could have been a chair, it’s been too many years.

  3. It’s one thing to fall asleep on the job–another to fall asleep on your bayonet. (Also, learned a wonderful new word: picklehauber.) Good story.

  4. Well done Jackie. I wondered what he might be thinking, you’ve summed it up so well. Love his internal monologue and how one thing leads onto another seamlessly.

    1. I’m thinking worse, unless of course you like standing in one place for hours on end. πŸ˜‰

  5. I can imagine that stuck like that for any period of time your thoughts would begin to ramble all over the place. You reflected that nicely Jackie.

  6. From where she’s standing there will be a lot to see. There are places around the places where it’s devoid of people… nothing to see nothing to do… My own post was on the backside of the castle… Nothing much happened…

    1. Yes, I would imagine there are places that are quite boring. Thanks for stopping by Bjorn! πŸ™‚
