Daily Prompt: Progress

Hello people! So, I was sitting here this morning, reading different blogs and wondering what I was going to write about today. Then I saw the Daily Prompt today and its subject, which is Progress.

When you look back at your blog on January 2, 2015, what would you like to see?

I’ve been thinking about writing a post based pretty much on the same thing, so why not just combine it all and so here I am. What would I like to see on my blog on this date next year?

Well, I have all sorts of lofty goals in mind. So I thought I would just make a list. This list is a combination of where I want my blog to be and where I, as a writer and a person want to be this time next year. It will be interesting to read this next year on January 2 and see what I can check off as being accomplished.

1) I want to have 1000 followers on here. I have a long way to go, but I also have 12 months to do it in. Not so bad when you look at it that way. Right now I have a little less than 300, which is great! I enjoy every single one of you! But I’m greedy, I want more of you! More I say! Please?

2) I want to be able to announce that I have a book published! I am going to work hard on this one, so it comes to fruition. I have two works in progress right now. One is a fiction novel, one is a memoir. Also, I have another idea for a fiction novel floating in my head and I am thinking of making a book of either my flash fiction, or short stories. I have lots of ideas, now I just need the time and the moxie to pull it off.

3) I want to have more reader participation in my posts. I’m not sure how I can do this, but I’m thinking about things. I love comments, I love interacting with my readers. Now I just have to figure out how to go about this. I don’t write about controversial subjects. That’s just not who I am. Sure they get lots of comments and stirs things up, but I’m not sure that’s the way for me to go. I’ll leave that to the ones that do it so well, like Le Clown and a few others. If anyone has any ideas, I’m open to read them.

4) I want to be able to read and comment on more blogs. I’m not sure how I’ll have the time to do this, but I’m going to try. I follow so many great blogs, but it eats at my time to write. I think I just need to manage my time better. I’ll work on that. Also, there are plenty of great blogs out there I have not discovered yet! I want to find and follow at least one new blog a day.

5) I want to join more writing groups. I am a loner at heart and writing for me is best when done in a quiet and solitude existence. But I need feedback on what I write and to do that I need people. Or at least their eyes and minds. Oh, fingers help too so they can type.

6) I need to clean up my blog I’m thinking. Maybe a new theme, new  ‘about me’ section. I’ve grown as a blogger this past year and I’m not sure my blog reflects that. I’m just not sure where to start. I suppose one step at a time. I know I need to organize it better so readers can find different things faster. I may need some helpful advice on this.

7) I also have some more personal goals I want to accomplish this year. Get healthy, lose weight, get my blood sugars more stable. Minor things like that. If I keep myself busy and plan my time right, everything will fall into place I think.

I think I’ll leave it at 7 things. I like the number 7, it’s lucky for me. Now to get things rolling in the right direction. On that note I better get my butt moving. See you next time!

  1. I just pretend my “about” page isn’t there. I’ve updated it once since I started blogging… at least it doesn’t say I’ll be blogging recipes anymore. That was a short lived dream. 😀

I’m looking forward to seeing your books published! 😀

  2. a lot of us seem to have the goal to get a book published – I hope that by the end of the year some of us will be able to exchange some of these books – wouldn’t that be cool! Here is to writing more and getting published! (oh by the way you have another follower now, ME!)

  3. Jackie,
Inspiring list, I sort of forgot about my “about” page so I’m adding that to mine as well.
I also have a goal to publish a book and I look forward to crossing the finish line with you on that one. See you there!

    1. Hi John!
Thank you for stopping by. Yes, that about page gets forgotton a lot, but it does get read. I’m thinking of changing mine so it looks like a blurb from the back of a book. What do you think? As for those books being published, I do hope we both cross that finish line! Cheering you on!

  5. I like this list and I love your blog title: To Breathe is to Write. Just today I was thinking that I need to update my “About” page. And I will get around to it. But you are right…that page is always forgotten. Looking forward to reading more about your journey in 2014.

  6. Wow Jackie! That’s an ambitious list. My word this year is Health, physical, emotional, financial. Balanced would be good too. I’m cutting back on the writing for awhile to focus once again on health. As soon as company is gone, so are the carbs. That’s the best way for me to manage my sugar and emotions. No carbs works best but it’s really hard. I’m even keeled and not as tippy when I eat right. The writing will take a back burner to get some projects finished that have been waiting for me to get well enough to do them. I’m wishing you the best on your list. You can do it though.

      1. I know what you mean. I keep saying “I’m running out of daylight.” At 65, I have lots to get done that I tell everyone I have to live to 108 to get it all done. 😉

  7. Your list sounds great – and it’s all doable for you! I think your blog is already well organized. The navigation is easy and one can find recent posts, top posts, categories etc. Maybe a new “jazzy” theme?

    1. Yeah, I’m looking at themes tomorrow, it takes forever to pick one out I like. haha! I might just tweek a few things on here. I don’t know, I’m still thinking. 🙂
As for the list, well I’m going to give it all a good try!

  8. You know what I’ve been doing. Scheduling my post. This way I am consistently posting daily. Getting comments is a tricky fete. I thought if I comment on other peoples blogs they would naturally comment on mine. Not so. I decided not to worry about it. I’m just going to do my own thing.

    1. You got to do what you got to do. I notice also that commenting on other peoples blogs does not mean they will do the same. I don’t worry about it really, I’d just like to have more. Not saying I will of course.

  9. Your blood sugar is a little thing? You definitely have lofty goals for 2014, Jackie.Getting your work published isn’t lofty but following one additional blog per day? I get overwhelmed with the number of blogs I follow and can’t imagine adding more.

I hope you accomplish everything that is important to you this year.

    1. Thanks Lois. Well, no my blood sugars are not really a little thing. They aren’t super high, but I do need to keep them lower than I have. I really don’t follow a huge amount of blogs right now. Cleaned house on some that are inactive so I have room for more.

      1. I had to stop reading so many myself, and some of my favorites, like yours, I just didn’t have much time to visit for the last couple of months with so many other things needing my attention but I have a lull and am enjoying visiting friends again.

  10. Definitely keep commenting on others’ blogs, and make sure your comment adds to the conversation. If the blog author doesn’t visit your site, there’s a good chance a follower will, if your comment is compelling.

Also, try a call to action at the end of your posts. If you’ve written about songs you hate, ask your readers to share their own hated tunes. When we feel part of the process, not only will we participate – we’ll come back and check out what everyone else has to say.

    Liked and followed!

    1. Thanks for the advice Eli. I will do that. I do try and leave more than a ‘great post’ on blogs I comment on. My time is the problem. So many great blogs, so little time. I will keep what you say in mind. Thanks following also! I appreciate it. I will be over to see your blog really soon!

  11. A wonderful list of seven, Jackie. I know you’ll do well with all of them. I haven’t given much thought to what I want to accomplish this year. I need to find the vacuum cleaner. Someone needs to run it.
