Tell us about a time when everything actually turned out exactly as you’d hoped.

This one was an easy one for me today.

You know what turned out exactly as I hoped? Blogging.

When I first started blogging about a year and half ago, I didn’t know what I was doing, but I knew I wanted to do it. I never  read many blogs, just a few from a couple of friends. I liked how they made their blogs an extension of themselves. I wanted to do that.

I knew I wanted to write, but the funny thing was my first blog was a food blog. Food I knew. I love to cook, I love to learn about new food, I love to try new recipes. So, instead of doing what I really wanted to do (write stories) I started the food blog and was quite pleased with the response.

You see, I was terrified to put my stories out there for public consumption. I didn’t think I was good enough. I liked my stories, well of course I did! But would others? Strangers reading my words and enjoying them? I didn’t think that was possible.

Six months later I decided to do what I should have done in the first place. Start a blog with my writing in mind. That’s how this blog was born. And I’m loving it.

I’ve ‘met’ so many other great bloggers. People who love to write as much as I do. I’ve learned how to tread this blogging world and now I hike all over it! I’ve grown as a writer with some great advice and challenges.

I found out about NaNoWriMo and Haiku’s and flash fiction and fell in love with writing all over again. So yes! Everything turned out even better than I had hoped.

Thank you all for reading my blog, liking my posts, enjoying my stories, helping me to grow as a writer and fall in love with words more than ever. Words, mine and yours are beautiful things.

  1. It’s funny how similar my thoughts were 18 months ago. I was sure absolutely nobody would want to read what I wrote. And I had no idea what I would write about. Like you, I just wanted to write. Btw, I always remember how I found your food blog. All you posted there was very interesting and I tried a few things. Then it took me a while to figure out you had two blogs 🙂 And here we are, still blogging away when so many bloggers have already “closed the shop” or just faded away from the blogging world. I guess one has to love writing to keep on learning and making progress. My hat’s off to you!

    1. And my hat off to you! Yes, we have stuck it out haven’t we? We grow as writers the more writing we do. We have much more growing to do yet. So I think I’ll stick around for a while. 🙂

  2. Great post.

I am not a writer by any sense of the word. I do a fair job of getting my thoughts out of my skull tho. If I knew 6 1/2 years ago what I know now my blogging experience would have been quite different. People don’t find blogs by accident. People must be led to a blog and offered a free taste, people who enjoy what they read will return often and comment more. You are doing fantastic blogging!

    1. Thank you very much! I love blogging, I love writing so it is double good.

You do pretty darn good Scorpion as writing goes, I’ve read a bit on your blog. You more than ‘get your thoughts out of your skull’.

Blogging is work, but it’s great fun also. So when people find me and comment it makes my day. 🙂

  3. If you cook like you write, I can’t come for dinner. I’d gain too much weight not being able to say “no thank you”. 🙂 Life has twists and turns and the food blog got you here and we are delighted. I’m not a foodie so I would not have found you on the other blog. Glad I did. You write wonderfully. Keep going.

    1. Thank you! I should really stop cooking as I like what I cook too much also. haha 🙂

I’m glad I got brave enough to start my writing blog. I don’t regret it at all. And thank you for always reading and commenting. I truly appreciate it.

  4. Hi Jackie,
I am glad I stopped by to read your blog I felt very encouraged and motivated to continue to write. I had an aspiration to be a writer of some sort but I had no idea of how I was going to do it. I started three years ago obviously my writing is not good enough I never had any feed back. Ever since I enroled to do Blogging 101things have changed for the better. I now believe that my writing will get better as I read aother people’s blogs and learn from them. Thank you ever so much, I will not give up now when I realised reading some of your blogs how far you have come. I am so happy for you. Well done.
