My Steps Slow ~~~ A Poem

fall leaves

My Steps Slow

My steps slow, but my mind is young yet
it thinks of many things to say, to do
my mind races as it always has done
it’s my body that can’t keep up now

My steps slow, though I am young at heart
I find laughter and joy in the simplest things
From the blue in the sky, to the wind whistling by
A simple ‘hello’, a smile cast my way

My steps slow, my imagination grows
Dreams still hold fascination, hope, belief
The colors vivid, bold, beautiful
Nothing faded or grey in this world

My steps slow, I am no longer in a rush
I’ve done what I had to, now it’s time to do what I want to
I read, I paint, I write, I enjoy my time
As it grows shorter, I learn to enjoy it more

My steps slow, time rushes by
More aches, more pains, but I don’t mind
As I am still alive, still breathing, still moving
My mind forever young, my heart not far behind

My steps slow, they may falter some,
They may even need help now and then
As long as I am making those steps
I will love this life and all those steps that I’ve made

I enjoy reading, writing, and painting. I love animals and at present have one dog (Sam) and 2 cats (brother and sister, Notwen and Pouncer). I've lived in various places in the USA and now in Canada. I've always enjoyed watching life and people and have developed an appreciation for it all. My outlook is sometimes out of the normal.... but that's what makes things so interesting! I am always interested in the opinions of others. Everyone has their own outlook and it's always worthwhile to listen! http://tobreatheistowrite.com

  1. What a wonderful poem Jackie. Yes, the body moves more slowly and so does the mind sometimes as we age. But we get to stand in the moment and embrace it longer that way. I wish I could not be a poet the way you are not one. Well done. You have my deepest envy. πŸ™‚
