Abandoned ~~~ A Poem

Toys left on a window ledge
bright colors dim with age
waiting for little hands
to grab and play again

The sky cries in sympathy
it’s tears streaking dusty panes
painted smiles shine on through time
Wood, plastic, tin, they wait in vain

Abandoned, who knows how long ago
but memories were made in distant past
childish laughter filled the air
Happiness flowed within those toys

So, they wait, these abandoned toys
for all those little girls and boys
to once more hold them in their hands
and giggle with abandoned joy

I enjoy reading, writing, and painting. I love animals and at present have one dog (Sam) and 2 cats (brother and sister, Notwen and Pouncer). I've lived in various places in the USA and now in Canada. I've always enjoyed watching life and people and have developed an appreciation for it all. My outlook is sometimes out of the normal.... but that's what makes things so interesting! I am always interested in the opinions of others. Everyone has their own outlook and it's always worthwhile to listen!

  1. A beautiful poem, Jackie! A bit melancholic but has a joyful undertone, blessed memories and hope for the future. Hugs to you my friend ❀

  2. Nicely written even though it has an undertone of saddness. The sadness of lonely toys with no children to play with. You leave us hoping but until then it is sad. I like it Jackie.

  3. Bleak photo. You did well with what you had to work with. Kind of thought of your art supplies waiting for you to come back to them. You do so well with poetry. I’m envious, can you tell. πŸ™‚

    1. I think I’m not so good with poetry, I find if I write what I feel, with less filler words, it seems to work. But hey, I’m an amature. πŸ™‚
