Hello People!

Yes, it’s really me. I decided to have you all over for coffee/tea/pop/soda/water/whatever you want to drink on a Monday instead of the weekend. I’m just a rebel that way. 😉

Hope everyone’s weekend was a good one. Mine was a mix of lazy and busy. Come to think of it, that could sum up my whole month! Let me tell you a bit of what has been going on in my world lately. Then we’ll get to the book cover reveal! (Unless you scrolled down and peeked already?)

First, what’s with the crazy weather? It’s been so weird in my corner of Alberta, Canada. One day we are hot (36C/97F) to cold and snow! I kid you not. A couple of days ago it snowed just a bit north of me. In August! Where I live it was rainy, windy and cold! It got down to 3c/37F! My poor tomato plants were not happy. Neither was Sam, as he hates cold rain. Today it’s back up to warm, but we have the smoke from Washington state fires drifting over and so it’s  hazy and smoky. It does crazy things with my allergies.

I’ve been busy doing edits on ‘A Case of Deceit’. I’m close to needing beta readers, so look for a call out soon. Unless you want to volunteer now? I’m done with ‘The Canine Caper’ and just waiting for a bit to upload it to Kindle. I want to be able to offer you the opportunity to pre-order the Deceit story at the same time. I’ve been doing this dance between both stories, Amazon and CreateSpace to get it all in order. Whew! I never realized how much work there was in the back-end of putting a book together!

I’ve been lucky in that I have had a ton of help from a couple of great friends. They both advise me on how to do things and give great feedback when I either vent or have a question. They have been both so patient with me. Let me tell you, having friends that are already published and more than willing to give you a hand is priceless. So I want to take this moment to thank them both…Maddie Cochere...without her input my edits would have been much harder to do. She also has given me great advice on so many things on the book and publishing. I love her to pieces. Thank you, Maddie! You’ll be hearing from me again soon I’m sure.

The second person that has helped me tremendously is Aulikki, most know her as tiny from Tiny Lessons Blog. She has helped with beta reading the Caper story, edits, and my new book covers! She is the designer of both book covers…The Canine Caper and A Case of Deceit. Without her help, I would not be able to publish either story. She has been a so supportive in so many ways. A true friend. Thank you, tiny! You are my hero! She did all this for me even though she is one busy woman. I’m always able to email her to ask dumb questions. With the book covers, she took my visions of what I wanted and made them a reality. I think she did an awesome job on them!

I can’t thank tiny enough for all she has helped me with. One day I want to meet both women in person. 🙂 The friendships one forms in Blogville are strong and true. I value them highly with all my friends on here.

Now on to the exciting part! The book cover reveal for A Case of Deceit! Here you go!

Isn’t it great? I just love it! Tiny and I agree that it fits the story to a T! (or a Tee 😉 )

So look for The Canine Caper to come out sometime next month, fingers crossed! At the same time or very close to the same time I will be offering A Case of Deceit for pre-order! I’m so very excited and scared. It’s been a lot of hard work, but I’ve learned so many things and friendships have strengthened during this process. I couldn’t have done all this without Tiny’s help and encouragement. I owe her big time!

In fact, I owe so many people who have helped me on this journey, including the beta readers for The Canine Caper. Thank you all!

  1. I think it’s a great cover! And you are so blessed to have Tiny. I’d be very happy to be a beta reader for you, particularly as I have not read any of your books yet so it will be from a completely unbiased angle. And of course, happy to provide a ready-done review for when it goes out there. 🙂 Won’t be upset if you choose others, I shall read it anyway!

  5. Jackie, I am so proud of you!

    What a year it’s been for you! I had to go back and look … January 30th of this year, you did a Flashback Friday and let us all read your short story, The Man in the Fedora. Could you have ever believed when you posted that day that we would all love it so much, and you would go on to use the characters to take on the ABC Challenge in April – and you wrote beyond April and came up with a novel – AND YOU ARE READY TO PUBLISH BOTH STORIES – with more to follow. Phew!

    It takes courage to take those first steps into the self-publishing world, and I wish you much success! I can’t wait to buy your books. 🙂

I wish I wasn’t in the throes of trying to get my own book finished, so I could help you more, but I’m thrilled you have so many wonderful friends to help you. You already know I love your covers.     1. thank you Maddie! Between you and Tiny I found my courage to do what I’ve always wanted to do…write and publish a book! I love my story characters, they are like family now. Dysfunctional but loving. 🙂
      You are the one who first said I should write a book. You are the one that said I could do it. YOU are my inspiration because you are an awesome writer and friend. 🙂 Then Tiny came along and echoed what you said, so I figured two great ladies couldn’t be wrong. 😉

  7. I’m so proud of you Jackie! Soon you’ll have two stories out! I’m happy I’ve been able to be of a little support, my friend. And I plan to be here for the next five covers in the series, if you still need me, it was so much fun 😀 Thanks for pushing me to finish my own manuscripts too ❤

  9. Congrats, Jackie! That’s awesome. That reminds me that I need to get writing on my own book. I think I started mine before you started both of yours and it’s still far from done.

  11. Jackie, that’s a great cover and fits the story perfectly! I’m glad you are getting help with your book from people who have already gone through the process. The first time I published for my son it was quite the headache.

    The weather here has been crazy too. No snow thankfully and I didn’t think I’d hear of anyone having snow so early. We have yet to have a really hot night where it was uncomfortable to sleep, which would be normal for August. When my grandson was here earlier in the month there was one morning I got up, freezing, and thought I’d finally woken before him. As I came into the living room where he slept he picked his head up and informed me he was awake but too cold to get up. I’m getting concerned we are going to have an early and harsh winter. Please don’t let it be so.

Love the book cover and mostly love how this post exudes bubbling excitement, really happy for you! 🙂 I would offer to beta read, but right now I’m a bit stretched and am planning to do NaNoWriMo in November, so can’t take on any other commitments for a few months, but you can put me down as a future beta reader!

      1. I’ve done NaNo once before. I wasn’t particularly planning on doing it again but there’s something I want to write that I might not ever get round to doing if I don’t give it the huge kick start that NaNo provides! I’m not always very self-motivated/disciplined with things but when it’s a challenge like NaNo then my competitive side kicks in!

  13. I read this then ran out to paint some more and forgot to leave a comment. Maybe it’s the paint fumes?? No, there are no fumes. No excuses, just brain dead. 😦 Loved the cover. Perfect in every way. So glad you have all that help in the areas you need it. Ask and you shall receive. That’s how it works. Weather? It’s letting us know we aren’t running things around here. I love the little dog in the window. Wishing you success with the new book. I know how much work it takes to produce a good story. Barbara

  15. I finally got my second book printed in April, am working on getting it on Amazon as an e-book now. You’re right – that’s a lot of work. and you’re also right – I don’t think any of us who write could do so without people in our lives to support, criticize, encourage and help us with the big and little stuff. I finally understand why the page of ‘acknowledgements’ in every book!

    1. Great! Good luck with your book! It is a lot of work, but so worth it. Yes, the acknowledgements make sense to me now too. Without the help I received things would be so much harder.
