Monday Meeting ~~ Sept 7, 2015

Good day people! Those of you who are celebrating Labor Day, have a great one. Hope you enjoy your day off if you have the day off. Canada also celebrates Labor Day.

Let’s get this meeting started.

Monday Meeting

I don’t know about the rest of you, but, September has not started out well. Weather wise. It’s cold! For the last three days, I’ve had my furnace on. We’ve had temps in the low 40’s (between 5-8C) during the day and close to freezing at night. Cold rain and wind does not make tomatoes ripen, let me tell you. Right now the sun is fighting the clouds and it’s a balmy 12C (54F). It’s too early for weather this cool.

So as I sip my hot coffee I let my dissatisfaction with the weather slip away. Ah, coffee makes most things tolerable.

I have some news on the husband front. Tomorrow we have a meeting set up with someone who is (supposedly) going to help us file paperwork with the government to get him some more help, financially and medically. The great thing is this person is coming to the house! They called last week and set up an appointment. As he explained it to us on the phone, the mental health clinic that the husband talked to last month got in touch with this guy from the government. They told him the husband needs to apply to some programs to receive help as his depression is caused partly because we need the help! Well, duh, I could have told them that if they asked.

The nice thing is the husband doesn’t have to take a painful car ride somewhere. He can stay in the comfort of the house and have someone come to him. Should be interesting. Guess that means I should tidy up some, eh? Of course I could tell the guy I’ve decorated early for Halloween. πŸ˜‰ Cobwebs and all! Ha!

Have I mentioned the allergies? No? Well, my allergies have been going crazy lately! Watering eyes, sniffles, sneezing, hoarseness, itchy ears. My goodness, it’s been bad this time of the year. But, I soldier on….feeling sorry for me yet? Hey, I’m trying! Don’t worry, it’ll pass. So I’ll stop whining about it. For now.

On the book front, I want to thank everyone who has purchased The Canine Caper, you guys are the best! I do hope you enjoyed it. I’m diligently working on the next to final edits for A Case of Deceit. I’m happy to say I’m on target with those. I also got the proof of the paperback version of the cover last week. It looks amazing! Thank you again Tiny for all your hard work.

Something funny happened when the proof came in the mail. The husband watched me open it and then grabbed hold of the book almost before I could get a good look at it. I told him it was just a proof so I could see how the cover looks. The story inside would not be right as I had yet to do the edits. He said he didn’t care, he was going to read it. I almost fell out of my chair! He has NEVER read anything I have written. NEVER! But, he was determined he was going to read this unedited book.

I was so nervous. First, he rarely reads books. He’s more of a newspaper, TV sort of man. He went to reading and barely set the book down all day until he was finished! He shuffled into my office where I was working on the computer, handed me the book and said, “I’m proud of you. It was a great story. It had me interested from the beginning, where I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Your story had me turning the pages until the end.”

I don’t think I have ever felt more proud of myself than when I heard him say that. Now he is an honest man. Believe me he wouldn’t say it if he didn’t mean it. He never hesitates to tell me if I’ve done something wrong. He is also not a book reader by nature. So for him to read it in one day was an accomplishment! He liked it…he really liked it! haha!

Next I have to pass the Mom test, as she has informed me she wants a copy of the book when it’s out. Uh oh….

On a more cheerful note…Saturday is my birthday (the 12th) and don’t forget about my weekend birthday party! I’m not sure what exactly I’ll have going on but I do know I’ll hopefully have The Canine Caper on sale for the weekend. So stop on by sometime during the weekend and get a copy of The Canine Caper if you haven’t already done so!

I have finally put up some buttons on my sidebar with pictures of the books where all you have to do is click on them and they will take you to Amazon where you can order them. I’m slow, but I get there eventually.

That’s about it for this Monday Meeting. Hope to see you this weekend! Until then, have a great day!

  1. I would have been so nervous while he was reading it that I’d have to leave the house. For some reason, I couldn’t stand it when Male read stuff I’d written. I’m glad he liked it. I’m also glad that someone’s coming to your house! Yay!

  2. I understand your pride at your husband’s opinion. I knew I’d written a good book when my daughter-in-law told me she really likes it. She would never say that if she didn’t mean it, and judging by the books she reads otherwise, I quite rightly can feel honoured.

  3. Maybe your allergies wouldn’t bother you so much if you dusted the cobwebs! πŸ˜‰ I could imagine the joy you felt with your husband’s approval. If my sister read my stuff without me asking would make estatic. Hope everything works out with the assistance the man is helping with.

  4. Wow, lots of great news, except for the weather (though I would happily trade, 90 here again today).

I’m grinning ear to ear about his compliment to you. ((HUGS))

  5. Jackie, that’s such great news that someone is coming to the house to visit, and that help is likely on the horizon. You both need a break from red tape. Hope your allergies clear up quickly. It’s still 90 here, but your Canadian air is on the way, and we’ll be in the 70s soon. It’ll be nice to quit running the air ’round the clock.

    1. Maddie! Oh, 90 is too hot! It is actually nice today, high 50’s. Fall is coming fast to Canada, although they say we are going to have a mild winter. We shall see. πŸ™‚

  6. So happy he read the book. That’s really really wonderful.
Both of us ( and the dog) sneezing and sweltering in this heat. Coolish front where are you?
Can’t believe someone’s coming to the house – an appointment. Miracle do happen.
    Great start of the week!

    1. I’m happy he read the book too. Still makes me smile.
Coolish front probably on the way….
Until we actually get help, I will hold off on saying miracles happen. We are dealing with a government. πŸ˜‰ But, yes, a good start to the week. Thanks for stopping in!

  7. Oh, Jackie! I’m tickled pink all over!!! First that someone is coming over to do an evaluation. Lets hope it brings results that offer some assistance. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. The fact that hubby wanted to read your book is huge and that he enjoyed it was no big surprise to me. It’s really quite good. I can’t tell you how many books I couldn’t read all the way through so you are way ahead of the game. I do get how good that made you feel. My husband would never have read anything either though the first was a reader. The second
As for the weather, we had a cold snap too. It got so cold that I had to close the windows yesterday. I swore I would not turn on the heat because we have been trying to make the AC unit get it that cold all summer. This week, back to the same old heat. Up in the 90’s again. I found an old British mystery series on netflix to watch while I “heal” my eye. No lifting, no bending so I sit and listen to Rosemary and Thyme. πŸ™‚ Like I said, I love a good mystery.

    1. I’m glad you are relaxing and found something good to listen to! I too love a good mystery.
Well, the husband surprised me that’s for sure. But it was/is nice.
The person from the government is coming over this afternoon, we shall see what he deems as ‘help’ soon enough. πŸ˜‰
Keep taking care of yourself Marlene!

  8. Love Rosemary and Thyme! Sorry, I digress. I echo everything that everyone else has said, Jackie. I’m glad you are getting more help and even more so that your hubby read your book and liked it. I think I would fall over if my hubby read any of my books, although he did actually read ‘Robin’s Ring’ (unpublished children’s book) and all he said was it had potential! Ever the teacher; it made me feel about ten.
It’s flippin cold over here too; but you must know what British summers are like! I’m actually wearing a long-sleeved top with a thick cardigan and socks under my trousers because it’s much too chilly to wear sandals. I think we may be in for a bad winter; I’ll be laying in the snuggle blankets and the Heinz Tomato Soup in readiness!

    1. Rosemary and Thyme must be a good show! πŸ˜‰ Thank you, Jeanette. I did almost fall over when the husband said he wanted to read my book! He has never showed interest in my writing before.
Hope you get a bit of what we call “Indian Summer”, usually a nice warm snap in late September or early October. That’s what I’m hoping for. It is supposed to warm up to 20c this week, so we shall see. Stay warm!

  10. Happy Birthday for Monday, Jackie! I hope the allergies go away soon (I’ve had the same problem).
It’s awesome that your husband loves the book. Mine is the same and if he doesn’t like what I write he tells me outright. It’s really good having someone like that who is honest and doesn’t worry about ‘hurt feelings’ because when they say it’s good, you KNOW it’s good πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you Dianne! The allergies are here for a while looks like. Ugh. But I’ll live. πŸ˜‰
I did think it was pretty special that he read the book, then loved it. Made my week! I’m glad he’s honest. πŸ™‚

  13. As you can see I’m trying to catch up yet again. Where does all my time go?

Anyway, I am so excited for you!! First hubby is going to get some help, it’s about time. Then your book. How fantastic that your hubby took an interest in your writing and wanted to read your story. How could he not like it? πŸ™‚ Your mom will enjoy it too!

The weather here has been downright cold at night here too but at least most days are warm enough to still enjoy. I may have to turn my furnace on soon too if it doesn’t warm back up.
