Wednesday Whatever!

My friend Mer over at Knocked over by a feather did this 50 list post where she posted 50 little things about herself most people wouldn’t know. I told her I was going to steal the idea. So here I am….stealing. πŸ˜‰

I’m not sure what I could possibly tell you that might be interesting or that you might want to know. ha! Goodness, most of you that have been here for a while know a lot about me already but I will try to come up with something new.

  1. I never drank coffee until I was in my late twenties. I loved the smell of brewing coffee back then but hated the taste.
  2. I started smoking cigarettes at the age of nine. Stopped on and off throughout the years, finally quit for good in 2007.
  3. I’m allergic to spider webs. Not the spiders themselves. To their webs. They secrete a protein when they make their webs and that’s what I’m allergic to. I get red itchy welts wherever my flesh has touched one.
  4. I almost got fired from my first job because I refused to give to the Salvation Army. I had read an article back then that stated the donations we gave mostly went to pay salaries of their Board of Directors than to actually helping people. So on principle, I refused to give. My supervisor tried to blackmail me into giving as I was the only one in my department that didn’t give. I dared them to fire me. They didn’t.
  5. I kissed a girl. I was young and wanted to know what it was like.
  6. I use sarcasm as a shield so no one knows how shy I really am.
  7. I don’t wear jewelry. Ever.
  8. I’ve never been baptised. My parents didn’t believe in teaching us kids any one particular religion. They told us to explore. So I did. I have been to lots of different churches. Even Jehovah Witness’. I have come to my own way of believing which leans more toward Wicca and Native American.
  9. I once lived with my ex, his girlfriend, and her daughter because I had nowhere else to live. It only lasted a couple of months before they moved out while I was at work. With all my stuff. Except my clothes, bed, one chair and a tv tray.
  10. My favorite vegetable is asparagus. (Mer and I have great taste!)
  11. The vegetable I hate is peas. With lima beans right there with it.
  12. I’m allergic to beets.
  13. I went through menopause in my early 30’s and would lose my temper so badly that all I could see literally was red. It scared me, then depressed me.
  14. I had an affair with a married man.
  15. I had nightmares for a month after seeing the movie ‘The Exorcist’. Β Yes, I read the book too. To this day, I don’t watch horror movies. Or read horror books.
  16. I have never broken a bone.
  17. When I was a teenager I developed ulcers because of my mom. We had a tumultuous relationship.
  18. I love lemons.
  19. I taught myself to type. I now type over 60 wpm.
  20. I hate talking on the telephone and will avoid it whenever possible.
  21. My two best friends are ladies I have never met in person but I know I could tell them anything without them judging me. I trust them.
  22. I never wanted kids.
  23. I never wanted to get married.
  24. Both marriages came about because I was ‘pushed’ into them. Otherwise, I would Β have been quite content just living with them without the paperwork.
  25. I have never been on a motorcycle.
  26. I am the only one in my immediate family who has attended a college.
  27. I taught myself to paint.
  28. I used to sell my hand painted items in the Dallas Market Center.Β
  29. I never tried pot until I was in my late 40’s. Didn’t try it again.
  30. I’m scared of the dark
  31. I haven’t had my hair cut since 2006.
  32. I used to faint at the sight of needles. Now I’m a diabetic. Karma sucks sometimes.
  33. I am a food addict.
  34. I have never seen a Stars Wars film
  35. I have never read a Harry Potter book
  36. I don’t like chick films
  37. I always wished I looked more like my Native American mother than my German father
  38. I still resent my family for not telling me my dad died until months after, nor letting me say good-bye
  39. I love Mexican food and wish someone would smuggle some to me.
  40. I never wear long sleeve shirts
  41. I hate sweaters
  42. I always wanted to own a mastiff dog
  43. or a pet dragon
  44. I lost all my body hair (except on my head and face) more than 20 years ago
  45. I haven’t shaved my legs or armpits since because of it, I haven’t had to as no hair grows there
  46. I’m not afraid of dying, I’m afraid of HOW I will die
  47. Nothing shocks me anymore, lived too much, seen too much
  48. I have never had a birthday party and I’m going to be 61
  49. I don’t mind getting older anymore (I used to!) because now I can say whatever I want and get away with it.
  50. Someone sent me my ex’s Facebook page last week…..yup, I looked

Some of this might come as a surprise. I hope I have given you some new stuff about me that you didn’t know before. For some of you new people it gives you a chance to know me more than you probably wish. ha!

Maybe some of you feel inspired to do a list of your own. Let me know if you do!

Thanks Mer for the idea! ❀

I enjoy reading, writing, and painting. I love animals and at present have one dog (Sam) and 2 cats (brother and sister, Notwen and Pouncer). I've lived in various places in the USA and now in Canada. I've always enjoyed watching life and people and have developed an appreciation for it all. My outlook is sometimes out of the normal.... but that's what makes things so interesting! I am always interested in the opinions of others. Everyone has their own outlook and it's always worthwhile to listen!

    1. My ex is a…..well, let’s skip that part shall we. πŸ˜‰ I went and re-read MMO. I think it’s all in what an author likes as a writer and a reader. I think I did pretty good in first person as my books are rather noirish (is that a word? it is now! ha!)

  1. Congrats on quitting smoking. You rock! Kudos to you for refusing to give to the salvation army. Feel the same about your line of beliefs. Man that sucks about your ex and his girlfriend. I would love to do this…but worry too much about putting this much info out there. It’s sad that we have to feel like that. My love affair with coffee started when I was a toddler. πŸ™‚ Great post. Brightened my night.

    1. Thank you! I’m not too worried about giving away too much information. I only put out what I want to. Not much anyone can do with what I put out there. Boring stuff mostly. ha! Glad I could brighten your night. πŸ™‚

  2. I reveal enough about me in my poems. I started smoking at 8 and finally quit when I was 48. I love peas. My sister had a mastiff, his name was Bull. I use to go in the back yard to smoke and he would sit with me. When he got old he was losing his sight. I went outside to smoke and he barked at me. When I said it’s me Bull he came over and sat with me. I guess he lost his sense of smell. Damn that ex and his girlfriend. My hair doesn’t grow any where but my face too. Wish it didn’t grow on my face. I think that’s from menopause. I didn’t cut my hair since 2007. It was down to almost my hips. It was two much to wash. I didn’t wash it sometimes for months. Last month I put it in a ponytail and cut it off. I’ve washed it three times already. Maybe I could have met this challenge. But nah! I had fun learning new things about you.

    1. We were bad little kids…smoking. πŸ˜‰ Bull sounds like he was a great dog. I trim my hair once in a while. I enjoy learning new things about you too, Kim. πŸ™‚

  3. Asparagus? E gads! :/

The not cutting your hair thing fascinates me…even growing mine out I can’t imagine not cutting it, but then maybe because I’ve always had bangs so everything go trimmed at once and it was just habit? IDK

I may steal this idea from y’all, if I write anytime soon πŸ™‚

    1. I have bangs too. I trim my bangs and my hair when it needs it. My bangs at least a couple times a month. But I don’t ‘cut’ my hair. I only trim about 1/2 an inch when I think about it. lol
      Steal away, kiddo.

  4. That was awe inspiring! So many of those things brought up interesting thoughts. My daughter is Wiccan too.We did a special ceremony when she got married. A Christian friend refused to come to the reception after. Everyone else loved it. It was beautiful. I’ve never heard of anyone being allergic to spider webs but then everything is possible. I know my daughter is profoundly allergic to spider bites. Maybe she has never run into a web before. You have a lot of interesting stuff here that you haven’t revealed before. I like you even more now. πŸ™‚

  5. Wow – this is a great list Jackie (I’m allergic to beets as well). While I was reading through your list I thought this would be a great idea for fiction writers for character development. There is so much information between the lines here. Awesome! πŸ˜€

  6. Finally, I learned a few things about you that definitely show me a side of you that is the complete opposite of me. I love peas and lima beans! I could live on Lima Beans! I love my jewelry but wear much less today it’s just not practical with the work I do, I’d be cleaning them all the time.

Then again we still have similar feelings on some subjects. I thought I wanted to be married but couldn’t go through with it. Kids I didn’t want because I didn’t think I could be a good mother so never thought further than that until I found I was expecting. Of course we share some bad traits too. I started smoking at age 12 and took many years to quit with many set backs along the way.

    1. I think I dislike peas and lima beans because I was made to eat them as a kid. I like jewelry, it’s that I’m allergic to some of the metals in them and they just get in my way. ha!
We were rebels my friend. Still are in many ways. πŸ˜‰

      1. Because I was forced to eat food I didn’t like I made my boys try new foods but after a bite if they didn’t like it I let it go. Mine was boiled cabbage in vinegar. I am still trying to get to the point where I like cabbage cooked in any manner. We were and are still rebels. πŸ™‚

  7. The Salvation Army one made me laugh because their big spiel when they do the Tree of Lights fundraiser every year around here is that they spend a lot less on “administrative costs” than most other charities do. I have no idea if that’s true or not, but I don’t trust most of the big name charities anyway…

    Hey, squirrel!!!
