When I Was Young

After my mother died in May of this year, my sister sent me a small box of photos that were my mom’s. I was happy about that because before that I had no photos at all of me or my family.

The reason I had no photos is a long story, best suited for some other time.

In the pictures that my sister sent me, I found a few of them of myself when I was just a small child. Wow, was that a long time ago!

I thought it would be fun to show you what I looked like way back then. I couldn’t believe I had ever been that small……..

I promised my good friend Mer that I would share a few pictures. I even have some of my mom and dad from a long time ago. I’ll share those at a later date.

Now, don’t laugh too hard at me…….

This first one is of me in Kindergarten. I must have been about 5 or 6 then. Don’t you just love those bangs? haha!

This picture was about sixth grade I believe. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure. My dad kept this picture in his wallet for many years, that’s why it’s in such bad shape. Again with the bangs.

As you can see, this one was taken in 1969, I was 14 then. I also had short hair for about the last time in my life. My mom made me cut it short. I hated it. We were also living in the much-haunted house at that time. My regular readers will know about it. My mom is next to me and my little brother in front of me. He was 12 then. My dog Chang in my lap. He was a blond Pekingese. I loved that dog and he hated everyone but me and dad.

So there you have it. I very young me! Such a long time ago. Sigh………

  1. Jackie, I think its wonderful you finally have pictures to remind you of your youth. And no I didn’t laugh at any, even the bangs. You should see some of me they are really bad.

    1. Thank you, Lois. It is nice to have the pics. I’m trying to scan them and download them to flash drive so I won’t lose them. Some are also deteriorating.

      1. I only have a few photographs I saved but have mine on the computer and thumb drive as well. I don’t have a scanner so I took photographs with my phone and downloaded them to my computer where I then repaired them

  2. Thanks for sharing these, Jackie! It was so nice to see you when you were young. 🙂
My mom always kept my hair short too, wth?

    1. My mom’s excuse for the short hair is because I wouldn’t take care of it. She was wrong though. I did take care of it, she just did it because she knew it pissed me off. She sometimes was mean to me. 😦

      1. I’m sorry, Jackie. 😦
I got head lice a couple of times and my mom chopped it all off. By the time I was in the 7th grade I had control over my damn hair. LOL

  3. Dear Jackie,

It’s always fun to take those little side trips down memory lane, isn’t it? Those were the days I was ironing my hair. Thank you for sharing.

  4. What a cutie. Isn’t fun to go through picturesvand stir old memories. Sorry to hear your mother passed. I must have been on my vacation. Happy that you got to mend your relationship.

  5. I’m so glad you finally have some of those photos and were willing to share a couple. You didn’t look any worse than the rest of us at those ages. I’m much happier with myself and more accepting now. I think we all felt pretty geeky as young people. It’s nice you had a sweet dog to hug through some of the tough times.

    1. Thanks, Marlene. My dogs in my childhood saved me. That and books. I always read and so I knew life wouldn’t always be where I was. I just had to tough it out. Which I did. Big hugs.

  6. These are wonderful pictures to have! And thanks for sharing. I had very similar bangs at some point. I think there is lots of similarity between the cute kindergarten picture and your avatar picture, I can see it’s you in both ❤ And I agree dogs are the best companions, always there for us 🙂 Big hug!

    1. There’s only about 50 years between the two pictures. LOL But thank you, tiny. Bangs were a big thing back then. I have them now….almost just like them but longer to cover the wrinkles. hahaha! Big hugs! ❤
