Share Your World – 2014 Week 27

I’m a bit late in posting for Cee’s Share your world this week. In fact, I haven’t posted much lately. But, I have an excuse, not that I need one. I have hurt my right knee and it is very painful so I have not had much concentration lately. Also, I think my muse went on holiday. Yeah, poor, poor pitiful me. Enough whining though!

Here is Cee’s four questions and my answers for this week. If you would like to join us, to get to know your fellow bloggers better, go on over to Cee’s photography blog and join on in! Thanks!

If you were the architect of one existing building, which building would you select?

The very impressive Regatta Hotel Jakarta.

Regatta Hotel
Regatta Hotel

The Regatta Hotel Jakarta was designed by Atelier Enam, based on the nautical theme, where the centerpiece is an aerodynamically shaped hotel bound to be one of the most striking landscape features overlooking the Java Sea. The ‘Regatta’ name comes from the symbols of tall ships, which are the 10 apartment towers sailing around the ‘lighthouse’ which is represented by the hotel. All these 10 apartment towers are named after some important port cities of the world, and each of them, are orientated towards the cardinal direction of their corresponding city.

Isn’t it fabulous? I would love to see inside!

What is one of your favorite quotes?

My favorite quote is one I made myself many years ago when I was living in an impossible relationship. It’s helped me many times stay strong and focused.

“Don’t Let the Situation Control You. YOU Control the Situation.”

What color do you feel most comfortable wearing?

When I was younger all I wore was dark colors. Blacks, browns, grays, dark greens. Pretty much matched what I felt. Now that I’m older. I wear bright colors. Reds, oranges, purples, bright blues, bright greens. About the only colors I don’t wear are pink and yellow. Pink because, well, I’m just not much of a pink girl. Yellows because they make me look like death warmed over. Not a good look on anyone, unless you’re a zombie. BRAINSSssssssSSSS!

What is something you learned in the last week?

I learned a new word this week. One I had never heard before. I was reading a friends blog and he had this word for a writing prompt. The word was Mamihlapinatapei. Have you ever heard of it? Not many have I think. The definition given was this; “The wordless, yet meaningful look shared by two people who both desire to initiate something but are both reluctant to start.”

I thought it was a pretty cool word. Don’t ask me to pronounce it though.

So how is YOUR week going?

Share Your World – 2014 Week 26

Another week is upon us, the first week of July all ready! Where does time go? Cee from Cee’s Photography once again asks 4 questions over at Share Your World. Why not join us? It’s lots of fun.

So let’s see what Cee asks this week.

Is your refrigerator, organized or a mess inside?

It is a complete and utter mess. I do try to keep it organized but it’s a no go. But then, it’s only a refrigerator.

If you could be famous for one thing, what would it be?

For writing. Writing things that people can identify with and love. I do other things like paint. But my hope has always been to write good stories.

What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?

Publish a book. I could name other things. But publish a book that people want to read has been my dream since I was a little girl. It’s been the longest held dream I’ve kept hold of.

00688-funny-cartoons-writer

Where do you eat breakfast?

I don’t eat breakfast. I was never for eating first thing when I got up. I’m still that way. So I wait for lunch. If I could I would eat only once a day like I used to when I was young. That’s the only way I could keep my weight down. But after becoming a diabetic 7 years ago, that was no longer an option. My doctor wanted me to eat 3 times a day. I told him that for me that wasn’t a good idea. He insisted. I did it for 3 months and gained 30 lbs. I then quit eating breakfast. And even with exercise, I have yet to lose that damn weight. Now my doctor listens to me more. Oh, and I only had a piece of toast for breakfast with my coffee. The dietician said have a piece of toast with a little peanut butter for breakfast. Yeah, that worked well. (Said sarcastically). When you are only 5 ft tall gaining 5 lbs is like gaining 20.

Share Your World – 2014 Week 25

Another week is going by fast people! Now, it’s time for me to do Cee’s Share your world. Cee from Cee’s photography does this every week. She asks 4 questions and we answer them best we can. Why not go see what it’s all about and join in? It’s a wonderful way of getting to know your fellow bloggers or maybe some new bloggers.

What is your favorite type of dog?  (Can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal, drawing, cartoon or character in a movie or TV show)

I love all dogs. I’ve owned all sorts of dogs, but I have to admit my favorite breed is the German Shepherd. They are smart, loyal, playful and easy to train. I used to raise them years ago. Another lifetime ago. I have to say though that Sam, who is a bishon/Shih Tzu mix is super smart too. He is my buddy, my confidante, my little clown. He loves me unconditionally.

Name one thing not many people know about you.

That I lip read. I’m very good at it too. I lost my hearing when I was 16. It was a slow, gradual loss that wasn’t detected till then. During that time I became expert at reading lips, just so I could figure out what everyone was saying. I was told in the beginning that my hearing loss could not be corrected. That hearing aids were not a solution as it wasn’t nerve damage that did it. At the time they weren’t sure what caused it. I was told by the time I was 20 I would be completely deaf. It was devastating. In the meantime, I graduated high school with one of the highest grades in my class. I got a job. Life went on. At my job I finally was able to receive insurance and so I decided to have my hearing tested once more by the leading  Otolaryngologist (ear doctor) in the state of Wisconsin. I was lucky in that he was practicing not too far from where I lived in another city. He did a battery of tests and confirmed that one, yes, I was almost completely deaf in both ears. But…..he could fix them! With an operation, he could replace the middle bone in my ear and fix it, hopefully. It was still a fairly new procedure where I came from and I was given a 50-50 chance that it would work. If the operation failed, they never could fix it and I would be deaf permanently. Needless to say it worked! I remember the first words I told the doctor when he was talking to me after the surgery and wanting to know if I could hear him. I drowsily told him to stop yelling at me. He wasn’t of course, but it seemed that way LOL.

Have you ever gone scuba diving?  If you haven’t, would you want to?

No to both questions. I have never had an interest in scuba diving. I am slightly claustrophobic. I do not want to be under water that way.

What was the most important event in your life last week? (Anything goes it can be a good night’s sleep, finished a reading book, winning the lottery, or getting married)

The most important thing last week is that it finally stopped raining. Yeah, not much, but I’ll take what I can lately. Oh, and speaking of sleep, I finally did have one night of half decent sleep. For me that is an unusual occurrence. I wish I had won the lottery, but alas, that keeps eluding me.

Share Your World – 2014 Week 24

Cee from Cee’s Photography has this really nice thing she does every Monday. She posts 4 questions and asks us to answer them in a post. This way we get to know each other a little bit better. Her questions are always interesting and make me think. So why not come join us!

Here is this week’s questions.

share-your-world2

What makes you feel the most secure?

Interesting question there. As I have been poor most my life I think having a bit of money in a savings would make me feel secure. There are so many ways to feel secure. Financially, physically, spiritually, how do I pick? There is even emotional security. So financially, savings would be nice. Physically, I always feel secure when I have a dog with me, they alert me to things going on outside. Spiritually, I’m always secure in that I know myself and my beliefs and I feel secure with that knowledge. Emotionally, I’ve never felt secure emotionally. Until lately. People have always let me down. I have always put my love in the wrong people. I think I’ve finally got it right. Took me my whole life so far, but for the first time, I feel emotionally secure in myself and others.

If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why?

I’m not a shoe person. So I’m not sure how to answer this one. I own one pair of sneakers and a pair of sandals. Well, I told you I wasn’t a shoe person! I guess I would be a comfortable pair of sneakers. Don’t ask me what brand, because I would just give you a blank stare. haha.

How many languages do you speak?

Does sarcasm count? Ok, I suppose that’s really not a language. Then I speak one, English. I understand some Spanish, French and German, but I don’t speak any of them. On and off I try to learn my Native American tribe’s language (Potawatomie) but damn that’s a hard language to learn!

What was the largest city you have been to?  What is the one thing you remember most?

This answer depends, I mean it could be population size, metropolitan size, geographical size, what?? I’ve been to a few big ones, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chicago, Dallas, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Calgary in Alberta. To tell you the truth, they all look the same to me. Full of people and cars and everyone seems to be in a hurry to get someplace. The traffic was bad. People drive crazy. People are rude. Just plain too many people!! That is what I remember about all of these places. Too many people in one place.

Calgary AB traffic
Calgary AB traffic

I do remember the Museum of Natural History in Chicago though. I’ve been there a couple of times, but not since I was a teenager. That place was fascinating!

Can you tell I don’t like big cities?

Share Your World – 2014 Week 23

Cee from Cee’s Photography has asked us 4 more questions this week. It’s up to us to answer them. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to get to know fellow bloggers. Why not come and join us?

Thanks Cee for some great questions again this week!

Would you rather be stuck in a small plane with mild turbulence for 2 hours or be a passenger in a car racing the Daytona 500?

I think I will have to choose the racing car in the Daytona 500. I’ve been in small passenger planes when they hit turbulence, it’s fun for about the first 5 minutes. Sort of like a carnival ride. But not 2 hours worth of fun. I think I would really be nauseous by that time. So I’ll take the race car, plus I like to go fast. So it’s a good choice for me!

alonechair

Would you rather be alone with nobody in the vicinity for one month or never be alone, not even for a minute for one month?

This one is easy to choose. I would much rather be alone with nobody in the vicinity for one month than never be alone for even a minute. Oh wow, talk about a way to drive me freaking nuts! I mean no alone time at all? Not even to go to the bathroom? No thanks! I would hurt someone.

I’ve been alone for long periods of time before and it doesn’t bother me. I like me, so I’m not afraid to be alone with me.

Would you like to sleep in a human size nest in a tree or be snuggled in a burrowed spot underground?

Another easy choice for me. Definitely in a human size nest in a tree! I hate the thought of being underground so much I am not even going to be buried when I die! Cremation is the way to go for me and then scatter my ashes either in the woods, or if you can’t find the woods, a lone tree will do. How about the tree with my nest in it??  Works for me!

In a car would you rather drive or be a passenger?

If it’s a long trip, taking turns driving is good. Or to be a passenger. I love to look at things during a long trip. For short trips it can be either way also, if it’s a place I know how to get to. I have a tendency of having ‘little adventures’ when I drive to someplace new. I don’t get lost you see, I just have small adventures. Ha!

Share Your World – 2014 Week 22

Cee over at Cee’s photography puts up a post challenge every Monday. It’s called Share Your World. She asks 4 questions and you give answers in a post so we can all get to know our fellow bloggers a little better. Thanks Cee, it’s a wonderful idea. Why not come and join us?

So here is my answers to this week’s question.

Regarding animals would you prefer not having them around or having domestic pets, farm animals, or seeing them in nature or the zoo?

I love all animals. I have always had pets, usually dogs, but I love cats too. I’ve been on farms and around farm animals. I prefer seeing animals free and natural, but some zoo’s I know are getting better about the keeping of animals. I would love to have the money and acreage to have a place for abused animals come to and live their life out as free as possible and well taken care of. That’s always been a dream of mine. Come on lottery winnings!!

Are you a collector of anything?

I used to be. After losing my things so many times in my life, I have become less and less materialistic. That and I hate to dust LOL. I used to collect Santa’s, coke things, anything with wolves. Now all I collect is years and memories.

If you could know the answer to any question, besides “What is the meaning of life?”, what would it be?

Why can’t people just get along and accept each other’s differences as something good and not bad?

If you were to treat yourself to the “finer things” what would you treat yourself to?

Some really good expensive coffee beans. Mmmmm. Coffee……  Or, all the books I want and can’t afford. Or, all the painting supplies I want but can’t afford. And to go with that I would have a big studio with lots of natural light. Other than that, I’m good. I’m not one much for clothes or shoes or jewelry. So for me, those are the “finer things” in life.

Share Your World – 2014 Week 21

Cee has come through again with 4 great questions this week. Come and join us if you like! Thanks Cee for hosting this shindig every week.

If you could make a 15 second speech to the entire world, what would you say?

Smarten up people! Killing each other is NOT the answer to everything. Try talking, loving, complimenting. We are each our own unique person and that’s all right. That’s the way it should be.

If you could take a photograph, paint a picture or write a story of any place in the world, what and where would it be?

Any place I’ve never been before. Which is a lot of places. Every place has its own beauty, from the desert sands to the rainforest. They all have flora and animals unique to them, as well as people. There are places I’ve always wanted to see, like Australia. But really, I don’t think I could choose just one.

If you had to spend one weekend alone in a single store, but could remove nothing, which store would you pick?

Anyone that reads this blog on any kind of regular basis knows two things about me. My love of coffee and my love of books. I have found a place recently that I would love to visit because of their coffee shop, and just down a bit from it is a fantastic book store! I would have a coffee, sit and savor it, while I watch the goings on inside the cafe. Then I would take  a slow saunter just down the street and visit the bookstore. I’m talking about a place in Cape Town, Africa. It’s called  Truth Coffee.

Exposed metal pipes run across the ceiling, while the cool hangout is littered with ornaments including vintage typewriters, Singer sewing machines and old candlestick telephones

The look of what I read is inspired by the Steampunk craze. Which I love.

Taking pride of place center stage is Professor Jones’s Fabulous Coffee Bean Contraption, an enormous retro-futuristic coffee machine which brings to mind the creations of eccentric inventor Heath Robinson

These are quotes that I took off from a review of the place. You can find it here. Then I would walk down to the bookstore called “The Book Lounge”. It’s an independent bookstore with nightly question and answer sessions and free wine. Now that’s my kind of bookstore!

If you were given a boat or yacht today, what would you name it?  (You an always sell the yacht later)

Let’s Go Do This!!

Share Your World – 2014 Week 20

Once again Cee from Cee’s photography has put together 4 questions to answer so people can have a chance to get to know their fellow bloggers. Thank you Cee!

041514-sywbanner

If you could go back and visit any time period, what time would you travel to and why?

Oh, I’m not sure. I mean there are pluses and minus’ to every era. No toilets is one as Sheena pointed out. That I wouldn’t like. In many eras women were no better than chattel, so not sure I would do well in those. Some eras, women like me were tagged as witches. Look how that turned out! Maybe go way, way back, where women with certain ways about them were looked up to as healers and such. If I could go back and not have the bad and just the good I would go and visit every era in history, just to see what it was really like and not the whitewashed crap the history books feed you.

If you could have three wishes granted for you alone, what would they be?  This is a time for you to dream and have fun.

#1 would be to have my health back. No diabetes. Contrary to popular belief, 99% of diabetics don’t ‘eat’ their way to having diabetes. It’s usually because you have the genetic makeup for it. Which I do. Diabetes runs in my family. I’m part Native American, where it runs rampant. Sure diet has a lot to do with it, but I’ve always been careful how and what I eat. Got it anyway. Now it makes everything more difficult. Losing weight that I gained when first diagnosed and the dr tried to figure out what insulin and pills worked best for me.  Ironic huh? Get diabetes while at a decent weight, gain weight while trying to control diabetes and now having a difficult time losing the weight because of the diabetes. Yeah, fun times.

#2 To have enough to help some friends that I know need help. To be able to do things that I’ve always wanted to do.

#3 To be able to afford to buy and maintain a very large piece of land for a refuge for abused animals of all kinds. This place is somewhere where they could live out their lives worry free and be loved and taken care of.

Wanting something to quench your thirst, what would you drink?

I usually go for water first, coffee next or Coke Zero. But if I’m really thirsty water or iced tea is the way I go.

If you watch TV what are your favorite three television shows?

I very rarely watch TV. If I did I would watch NCIS, Grim, Murdoch Mysteries or a good crime drama.

Thank you Cee for another week of fun questions!

Do you prefer shopping or going to a park?

Shopping!? Ugh! I hate shopping, unless it is in a bookstore, or antique shop. Now I could spend hours in a bookstore and I have! Wonderful place to be. I have spent hours in an Antique shop too, just browsing and wondering about the history of a piece that I’m drawn to. Nothing like looking at old things to spark the creative juices. Well, except when I look in the mirror LOL

I haven’t been to a park in years. I like walking around our garden parks. Taking in nature, listening to the birds. Now that’s my kind of mall!

What is the highest score you’ve ever made in bowling?  Actual or virtually played.

Well, I haven’t bowled in years. Sometimes I was good, sometimes I was terrible! Ok, truth is I was usually terrible! Like don’t ever stand behind me, cause the ball usually ends up that way, terrible. If I do manage to get the ball down the lane, I can usually hit the pins, sometimes. Not my cup of tea. Give me a card game like poker, now that I’m good at!

So I guess the highest I’ve gotten in actual bowling is something like 175 or so. Virtual, oh, I’m a pro in virtual. I used to have a bowling game that I played on the computer, I could regularly get a 300 game. My fingers didn’t get as sore either. haha!

Name the foreign countries you’ve been to.

That’s easy as I have never been overseas, yet. I’ve been to Mexico numerous times, I was born and raised in the states. Now for the moment I live in Canada. So 3 different countries.

What object do you always have with you when traveling and why?

Besides the obvious? Like meds, drivers license, stuff like that? The only thing that comes to mind is two business size cards my dad gave to me when I was about, 15 or 16. I can’t really remember, it’s been too many years ago now. I might have been younger than that, but not by much. They aren’t regular business cards though. I will try to scan them and add them to this post. They are joke cards. My dad (who passed away 10 years ago) had a great sense of humor. He would tell off-color jokes to see if he could get me to blush. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. But it gave him a laugh. I sure miss that.

My dad had a good sense of humor.
My dad had a good sense of humor.

Anyway, no matter where I travel I have these 2 cards in my wallet. They seem to be good luck pieces to me. A piece of my dad with me in all my travels, watching over me. I don’t travel anywhere without them. Ever.

What subject would you like to study in depth, if given the time to do so?

Creative writing, or a foreign language. Spanish or French would be nice.

Which would you prefer:  a wild, turbulent life filled with joy, sorrow, passion, and adventure–intoxicating successes and stunning setbacks; or a contented bordering on happy, secure, predictable life surrounded by friends and family without such wide swings of fortune and mood?

Give me the wild, turbulent life, please. That’s what I’ve been living with so far and man it’s been a wild ride! No regrets. Wilds highs, and lowest lows. I don’t want to just settle. I want to live life to its fullest. Feel every emotion, do things that will bring me great memories. That’s the ride in life I love. I’m not finished either, more adventures await me, more life filled with great joy, passion and love! Wouldn’t want it any other way.

What are your favorite spices?

Cumin, chili’s, garlic, thyme, really any spice. I love experimenting with spices. So I’ll try just about anything. I can be adventurous in my cooking. Don’t know what you might like till you try.

Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge: Week 10

This week I am participating for the first time in Cee’s Odd Ball photo challenge. Something different for me. Hope you enjoy my pictures.

Thank you Cee for having such fun challenges!

What's up there???
What’s up there???

I have no idea what Notwen is looking at, as I saw nothing up on the ceiling, but he was fascinated.

What is it??
What is it??

Can anyone guess what this is?? I know what it is, but I thought it might be fun to see if anyone can figure it out.

Now why did I take a picture of this??
Now why did I take a picture of this??

It’s part of my sidewalk next to my house. I have no idea why I took a picture of it! LOL
