Share Your World ~~ March 20, 2017

Last week for one reason or another I didn’t post much. Sorry about that. Life has a way of getting in the way of pleasure sometimes. I’ll have to do one of my catching up posts to update you on things in my part of the world. I have some (maybe) good news about the husband. So, stay tuned for that!

For today, I’m posting Cee’s Share Your World questions for this week. Thanks Cee for helping me with a blog post. 🙂

Today’s questions and answers are:

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

Some days I definitely feel my years. Others, hmm, maybe thirty, or forty? Now some of you might think…wow…that’s not that young of an age. It is when you are actually twice that. Ha! My mind is forever young, my body…not so much.

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house?

People actually own an umbrella? I love the rain. The feel of it on my face. I don’t really remember when I did own an umbrella. I don’t remember the last time I saw someone use one either. I don’t think they are as popular as they used to be.

Do you recharge your energy by going out with friends for a good time or by spending it with quiet time alone?

Oh, I must have my alone time. I would prefer it in the woods surrounded by nature but that’s not going to happen anytime soon. So I find it in my office or ‘writing room’ when I actually do any writing. I love the sound of silence.

Name three things you and your spouse, partner or best friend have in common.

I actually laughed at this one because I began thinking what my husband and I have in common…..and came up with nothing. Really, opposites must attract with us because we are not alike at all. So, I had to look at my bestie and me. We both have the same sense of humor (weird), we both love to write and read and we both are very honest with each other. If we don’t hear from each other in weeks, it’s ok. We communicate like time never passed. In fact we often times marvel at how similar our lives are. It helps in the understanding of each other.

That’s it for today, folks. Short and sweet. Hows things going with you? Let me know!

Share Your World ~~ Feb. 20, 2017

It’s Monday, so it must be time for Cee’s Share Your World! Thanks, Cee for the questions each week.

share-your-world2

When you cut something with scissors, do you move your jaw (as if you were about to chew)?

No, I don’t believe I do. Sometimes if I’m really concentrating on something I will stick my tongue out. Have no idea why… just seems to help. Ha!

Do you chew your pens and pencils?

Is this mouth week? LOL….Ok, no I don’t chew my pens or pencils. Yuck. You don’t know where they’ve been or what’s been on them. My problem is I do know where they’ve been! (makes you wonder don’t it) 😉

Are you a collector of anything?  If so what?

Do dust bunnies count? No? Eh. I used to be a collector. I collected Santa’s, snowmen, antiques, and books. Not necessarily all at the same time. First, I lost all my stuff in a fire, then a divorce, then because my mom was mad at me and my family members are vultures. So now I don’t collect anything but the aforementioned dust bunnies and no one else wants them.

Don’t feel sorry for me, though. When you live with less things you tend to enjoy what you have more.

What size is your bed?

I have a double sized bed which I share with Sam, my dog. He takes two-thirds and kindly lets me have the last third. Which you people with pets understand. That’s ok with me, it’s his snoring that sometimes gets to me……..

How’s your world doing today?

Share Your World ~~ Feb. 13, 2017

I did a post last week with a poll. I wanted to know what you wanted to see more of on my blog. As my readers, I want you to keep coming back to visit me.

I had a few answer the poll and the results are in! The biggest vote was you wanted more personal posts. More about me. Well, lucky you, I can accommodate you with the help of Cee’s weekly Share Your World questions. Thanks, Cee!

Also, it seems my readers want more short stories. Or a weekly series of the same ongoing story. I will see what I can do to fill that request also. Stay tuned for more short and flash fiction!

Thank you to all that voted and now let’s get it moving with some personal questions courtesy of Cee……..

Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?

Out. I used to sleep with them tucked in but now I need the sheets tucked out. Ever since I became diabetic I can’t stand anything holding my feet down, like sheets. So none of my blankets or sheets are tucked in.

bed-1284666_640

Have you stolen a street sign before?

Almost. When I was married to the ex we once stopped and tried to steal a street sign. I think because it had our last name on it. He couldn’t get it off the pole so I convinced him to leave it. I would have felt guilty if we had gotten away with it, so glad we didn’t.

sign-1749093_640

Do you cut out coupons but then never use them?

I used to use coupons a lot. Now, no. The place I shop at has weekly sales and I buy a lot of generic brands so usually the coupons I find I wouldn’t use as they wouldn’t help me save money.

Do you have freckles?

No, I don’t. I’ve been genetically blessed with clear nice skin. My siblings not so much…… I never got much acne and never had freckles.

Here I Go, Talking About Me Again

Good day, People. Hope your weekend was a good one. Now we are on the final stretch of finally getting the US election over with. With all that going on I thought some comic relief was in order. Or maybe it’s just some more weirdness going on…..

This is a post about yours truly, courtesy of Cee’s Share Your World questions. Can’t get weirder than me talking about me…again. I’m my biggest fan, apparently. ha!

Describe your own outlook on life in seven words or less. (NOTE:  does not  have to be a sentence.)

All things are temporary, especially the bad.

Where do you like to vacation?

What’s a vacation? If I want to go somewhere for a break I would prefer someplace with woods. I feel at home in the woods. Peace and serenity come to me through trees and wildlife.

Candy factories (sweets or treats including chocolate) of the entire world have become one and will now be making only one kind of candy. Which kind, if you were calling the shots?

This one is hard. I like really good chocolate. I imagine most people do. So it would have to be something with chocolate and peanuts. I love the combination of the two.

Complete this sentence: Something that anyone can do that will guarantee my smile is…

I was going to say smile. But I’ve had a few people smile at me that just creeped me out. Have you ever seen a clown smile? Talk about creepy! I’ve seen murderers smile….now if that won’t put you off smiles nothing will. So I’m afraid I will pass on smiles. So I’m going to go with……hell if I know. All I can see are creepy smiles now…thanks a lot, Cee. Ha!

Ok, now that I’ve given myself the heebie geebies I’ll leave. Go visit Cee and see what she says and play along if you like!

Share Your World – Week 41 2016

Today I’m going to share another session of Cee’s Share Your World. Why not visit Cee and see what it’s all about and read other bloggers great answers.

love-at-first-sight

Do you believe in love at first sight?

I’ve never experienced love at first sight, so I’m undecided. I know many people have said they believe as it has happened to them. I’ll keep an open mind about it.

Your first car?

My first car was bought when I was in my mid-twenties. It was a baby blue 1970 something Mustang. I paid two hundred dollars for it through my father-in-law at the time. He was an insurance adjuster in Texas and he got it because it was hail damaged. He wrote it off and I bought it. I loved that car. It looked like crap on the outside but that thing had a big engine in it and it would go!

Who taught you to ride a bike? How did it go?

I really don’t remember who taught me to ride a bike. Probably my sister or older kids in the neighborhood. I rode other kid’s bikes until my dad bought me my own when I was sixteen. It must have gone ok, as I managed to ride it and not crash it. Much…….

Ugly and rich or beautiful and poor?

I have never been materialistic and I’m used to being poor so I guess it’s probably ‘average looking and poor’. Ha!

What was the first dish you could cook?

I began cooking at a pretty young age, so I’m guessing it was eggs or something equally easy. I was cooking whole meals by the age of ten and as that was many, many moons ago, I don’t really remember. I also took cooking in Home Ec (when it was called that and when it was taught, again a long time ago!).

Hope you enjoyed the questions and answers today. So tell me….what was the first dish YOU cooked and when?

Share Your World – 2016 – Week 40

I haven’t done one of these in a long time so I thought, what the hell, why not do one today! Of course, I’m talking about Cee’s Share Your World post. She posts a few questions and we answer them. Nothing to it. Let’s see what she wants us to answer today. Oh yeah, if you would like to read what many others have answered, go one over to Cee’s blog and take a look!

retrowoman

Why did you start blogging?

I wanted to write and get to know people from the comfort and safety of my home. Well, ok, I was curious too. I didn’t know much about blogging back then but it looked like fun. I only knew of one other blogger at the time. I will tell you that I was terrified when I hit that publish button for the first time. Then I got excited because people actually were reading what I was writing! I do have to admit that my first blog was a food blog. I wrote about food and published recipes. It was great but not what I really wanted to do. So after about a year or so I got braver and started this blog….my writing blog… and I haven’t looked back since. I love blogging and the great community of people who come by here.

A piece of clothing you still remember?

When I was about six or seven my mother bought me and my older sister matching shirts. Mine was red and I think my sisters was blue (I’m not sure about that). They had a small poodle on them. It was my favorite shirt for many years. I have a picture of me wearing it too, now that my sister sent me pictures of when I was younger.

Who are you trying to reach with your blog?

Anyone and everyone. Writers, readers, I don’t care as long as they enjoy my blog and all that I offer on here.

Is there a stuffed animal in your bedroom?

Yes, there are several but they aren’t mine. They belong to my dog, Sam. He loves to play with stuffed toys. I think the ones in my bedroom are his raccoon, his beaver and probably a couple I don’t remember. He has toys in just about every room. He might (just might) be a bit spoiled.

The best birthday present ever?

Oh, that’s easy. It was for my sixteenth birthday. My dad bought me a dog. A small Shih Tzu that I named Ping-Ping. He was my best friend. My dad also bought me my very first bike that year too. So I actually have two best birthday presents ever.

What would surprise me about you?

I had to really think on this question. I’ve been blogging for four years now, I’m not sure there is anything about me that would surprise someone. Ok…..here’s something that I believe would surprise most people…..I once looked into opening a brothel. Truth! The only thing that stopped me was I found a job that I really enjoyed. The idea stayed with me for several years. I always thought I would be very good at being a madam, one that didn’t have sex with clients, though, that’s what the girls and guys would be for. I even had a couple of friends that wanted to join me. I have known some interesting people in my life. ha! Does that make me a bad person? I mean it would have been a very clean, upstanding sort of place. I’m very open-minded about things like that. Well, this should shock some people if they read it. 😉

I’ve Got To Be Me ~~~ Share Your World, Week 4, 2015

Hello people! I do hope all those in the wake of Storm Juno are doing well today. Did that storm actually do anything? How’s things by all of you?

This week is another question and answer session made possible by Cee, of Cee’s Photography. Why not pay her a visit and say hi! Also, check out her awesome photos.

(awesome song by the legendary Sammy Davis, Jr. )

Where did you live at age five?  Is it the same place or town you live now?

I lived in a haunted house in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was an interesting house to live in. No, I don’t live there now and haven’t for many years. I haven’t even lived in Wisconsin for many years. I’ve traveled around quite a bit since I was 5 years old.

You are invited to a party that will be attended by many fascinating people you never met.  Would you attend this party if you were to go by yourself?

I would like to think I would take the opportunity presented to me. But, knowing myself as I do, I probably wouldn’t go. I don’t enjoy parties or any large gatherings. The introvert in me. I feel out-of-place and awkward.

My childhood home which was haunted via google maps.
My childhood home which was haunted via google maps.

Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?

I grew up in the biggest city in Wisconsin. No, I didn’t enjoy it and got out as soon as I was able to. I’ve also lived in Ft. Worth, Texas, another large city, and no didn’t enjoy that either. I have most enjoyed living in smaller towns. Like now, where I live in Canada is a place that is just the right size. Big enough to have the conveniences that I enjoy, but still retain that small town flavor. The people here are friendly and outgoing. I like it here, except for the winters. Can’t have everything I guess!

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I had always wanted to join the Navy and have a military career. That was nixed with my hearing problems. So because of my great love for reading, I decided I wanted to become a writer of great books. I’m still working on that dream. 🙂

Other than that I was always open to possibilities. You just never know what’s around the corner.

What did you think you wanted to be when you were a kid? Did you become that?

I Love How You Love Me ~~~ Share Your World, Week 3, 2015

Hello People!

Back for some more of me, eh? Good for you! I love my readers.

This week Cee from Cee’s Photography gives us some more great questions to answer. If you want to know what this is all about, go over to Cee’s and join! You might also want to look around as she has some fantastic photos to share. Now on with the love fest!

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

Most people would say someone famous. A writer, a singer, a celebrity. Me, I would want some of my blogging buddies over for dinner. I want to meet them in real life, become best buds not only here in the virtual world, but in reality too. I think we would have a blast! We could start out cooking together, eating together and of course cleaning up together. We would laugh and joke and cry about some of our problems. It would all be great fun. Just to name a few, Maddie, Lois, J (Sheena, PunkRocker), Tiny, Michael, Mer, Evil Squirrel, Marlene, and anyone else who wants to come! Let’s have dinner, drinks (for those of us who imbibe), laughs, good times! (If I missed putting you down, I’m sorry, just sign up and let’s have dinner!)

When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?

I sing to myself all the time. Softly though, as I don’t want anyone to hear me. To someone else? Never! My goodness, you would NOT want to hear me sing. Just to give an example about how bad I am, last time I sang out loud (I was alone) my cat Pouncer attacked me! LOL True story.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?

I would love to have the ability to write how I want to write. I’m always working on my craft, but it never reaches the quality I want. I want to convey so much more in my writing than I’m able to now, not for riches or fame, for the ability to reach people and make them feel good, or happy, or forget their problems for just a little while. I want to be that kind of writer.

What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?

Rape. I hate when people joke about it. It is no way, in any shape or form, funny. Next on my list would be animal cruelty or child abuse. How can any of this be funny? Or joked about?

sleepingbaby

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for good friends, who have helped contribute to a fundraiser for my new mattress. You kind people simply amaze me with how generous you are, even though some of you don’t always have enough for yourselves. I’m so close to my goal. I am dreaming about that new mattress and finally a good night’s sleep. So please, if anyone can help me out, click on the sleeping lady in my sidebar and read about my fundraiser, help if you can. I love you guys!

I Gotta Be Me!!! ~~~ Share Your World, Week 2, 2015

Hello People! Hope your week is going great! If not, I hope it gets better.

Now for some question and answers courtesy of Cee, over at Cee’s photography. She does this every week and it’s a great way to find new blogger friends or find out more about old blogger friends. So why not pop over there and give it a look? Join us! Thanks.

Are you a hugger or a non-hugger?

I’m a bit of both I think. I’ll give you a hug if you hug me first, but I very rarely, if ever initiate it on my own. The introvert in me, I think. I love hugs. So come on, give me a hug!

2

What’s your favorite ice-cream flavor?

The few times a year I have ice cream I will usually go with something with nuts in it. I love Rocky Road, or mint chocolate chip, something along those lines.

Do you prefer exercising your mind or your body? How frequently do you do either?

I enjoy doing both. I have slacked on the physical exercising since I hurt my knee months ago. Now I’m just lazy and I need to get out of that. As for the mind, I do lots of puzzles, reading, quizzes, word games, that sort of thing to try to keep it sharp. Plus, I love the challenge. I do it for my mind every day. Now I got to get my body on board.

Are you more of a dog person or a cat person? Why?

Probably more of a dog person. Although I love cats too. I better, since I have two of them critters. But, Sam, my dog is my buddy. He’s a little character, with a sharp mind and he’s funny. All these people saying dogs don’t have characters, well, they haven’t met my Sam. 😉

Basically though, I’m an animal person. I love all kinds.

1386443698

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I usually don’t answer this question, as last year was a super tough one for me. This year is starting out so much better, and it’s early yet! I am grateful for friends far and wide who have helped me and have promised to help me in the future. You people are the best. If it wasn’t for you I don’t know how lonely I would be. I also want to thank all of you that have contributed to my fundraiser for a mattress and fridge. You have made this year start out awesome! I have a deep respect and love for all of you. Thank you so much. You have no idea how this will help. (If you are wondering about my fundraiser, please click the sleeping lady in my sidebar and it will take you to my fundraiser page and that explains it all. Thank you.)

I’m looking forward to more writing this year and better sleep!

A New Year, A New Me! ~~ Share Your World, 2015 Week 1

Hello people!

Ok, it’s not a new me, it is however a new year! So, the title wasn’t a complete fabrication. Cee, over at Cee’s Photography has once again asked us 4 questions. We answer them and get to know our fellow bloggers a bit more. Nice, eh? Well, go over there and see what it’s all about!

How do you get rid of pesky phone calls from telemarketers?

I just say, “not interested” and hang up. I used to have fun with some, I even wrote about one incidence where I pretended to be a little kid. I had major fun with that one! That was a few years ago. When I was younger, yet still a full-grown adult, people who didn’t know me, like telemarketers would mistake me for a young child on the phone. I have that kind of voice. So one day I decided to just go with it and that story came about.  If you would like to read it (it’s funny!) go here.

What are you a “natural” at doing?

Besides getting into trouble? ha!

That’s a hard question when I sit and think about it. Cooking is what comes to mind first. I’ve been cooking on my own since about that age of 10 or so. I don’t often make things that are not edible. I rarely taste as I cook either. So seasoning comes ‘natural’ to me.

Maybe painting. I taught myself to paint years ago after my ex Mother in law gave me a set of oil paints and brushes as a Christmas gift. I always admired people who could paint pictures. I’ve never had formal lessons or training, but think I do pretty good. I gave up the oils and exclusively use acrylics now. I really need to get back into painting again.

How often do you get a haircut?

Rarely. The last time I went to a salon and got it cut has to be more than 8 years ago. I was visiting my mom and she talked me into it. I only had a few inches taken off, because I don’t like short hair on me.  I trim it myself now and then, but it’s usually in a ponytail. The only time I let it out of its ponytail is when I go to bed, it’s almost to the middle of my back right now.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “fun”?

Writing, music, reading and playing on the computer. Yeah, I’m a wild child. LOL

Talkin’ About Me, Again! ~~~ Share Your World, Week 50

Yes, it’s me again! It’s that time of the week where you learn more about…..ME!

Hey! I gave you last week off! What more do you want? 😉

olddesignshop.com
olddesignshop.com

So this week’s questions are courtesy of Dawn over at The Day After Blog. Cee enjoyed her questions and included them in this week’s edition of Share Your World. Thanks Dawn and Cee!

Do you have a signature dish? If not, is there one in your family?

I’m famous (ha!) for my potato salad. I make the best one that I know of. I have a secret ingredient that makes it special. (NO! Not that! WTH people!) I can’t of course tell you what it is, because, well like I said, it’s a secret. It makes my potato salad taste just a bit better than most. Anytime we had a family get together I was asked to bring my potato salad.

Do you have a favorite board game?

I was never one for board games, even when I was a child. Card games were our thing. We would play Cribbage, poker, hearts, etc.

Is there a household chore that you enjoy?

Well, it’s a ‘chore’ and that usually doesn’t mean it’s something you enjoy. But, if there is something I like to do as far as household things are concerned, besides cooking, I would have to say, laundry. There is something comforting about the smell of clean clothes, towels, sheets. I love the feel and smell of clean laundry.

laundry-vintage-graphicsfairy006sm

What is one thing you will never care about?

Now this one is a great question. Made me think. The only thing I can come up with is, I would never care about another person’s skin color, religion preferences, bank balance. It’s what a person is like inside that counts with me. I’ve known millionaires and street people. If they have good hearts, it shows, no matter what else they have going on in their world.

p

So there you have it. Another peek inside my mind. Whoa, scary eh?

Baby, Let’s Do It One More Time! ~~ Share Your World, Week 48

Hello People!

So, you want to know more about me. Good grief! Don’t you know enough?? Ok, ok, my fans awaits! Onward!

You can blame Cee over at Cee’s Photography for this! She’s to blame! She twisted my arm into doing this! Well, ok, not really, but I thought you all could do with a bit of drama today. No? Hm, everyone’s a critic.

Yeah, yeah, I’m getting on with things.

What are your favorite toppings on pizza?

I’m a classic kind of girl. (Not to be confused with classy, HA!) We have a place here called Panago’s Pizza. They make the best pizza. My order is always the same. Panago Classic, which has sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, green pepper, onion, and black olives. I always order extra cheese too. Yummy! Oh, on a thin crust.

I want to learn more about …

Writing, painting and anything else that sounds interesting to me.

What are three places you’ve enjoyed visiting?

The Rocky Mountains here in Alberta. Amazing, beautiful and breathtaking. New Mexico and any other place I’ve been. I mean each place has its own kind of beauty and interesting places to see.

Do you prefer eating the frosting of the cake or the cupcake first?

Well, I don’t often have cake or cupcakes. When I want to really treat myself I will buy a cupcake over cake anytime. I love some frosting, some others not so much. I don’t eat one or the other, I eat them together. After all, it’s not an oreo cookie.

So what’s your favorite dessert?
