Sam and Me Comic

Hello people!

I do hope your weekend has gone well. With our crazy weather, we’ve been having recently (last week snow, today it’s 14C/58F), I’ve decided to do a Sam and Me comic about it. I haven’t done one in a while so why not….

How’s the weather where you are at?

Nano Poblano ~ NaBloPoMo ~ Day 12

Hello, people! The week is almost over with so let the fun begin!

As most of you know, I live in Canada, the province of Alberta. I’ve been here for almost fifteen years now. I’ve come to love this country and consider it my adopted home country. I’m originally from the US. I find the people very warm, friendly and adaptable.

So for today, for all my non-Canadian friends, I am going to list some little-known facts about Canada. Just in case you want to come visit, you will be informed…maybe not well informed, but informed none the less. 😉

  • Thirty-one percent of Canada is taken up with forests. Now for me that’s one of the best reasons to love this country!
  • Caribou (reindeer) live in Canada
  • Macaroni and cheese is the number one purchased packaged grocery item!
  • St Louis du Ha! Ha! is the name of a real Canadian town and is the only town name in the world that includes two exclamation points.

  • Canada is the best G20 country in which to be a woman.
  • Seventy-seven percent of the world’s Maple syrup is made in Quebec
  • 15,500 of the world’s 25,000 polar bears live in Canada
  • 130-km north of Winnipeg is the Narcisse Snake Dens conversation area, where each spring, tens of thousands of red-sided garter snakes slither out from their dens for a few weeks from mid-April to early May. Fortunately, there are viewing platforms set up so you can watch them from afar.
  • There are million-dollar highway overpasses in Banff National Park which were built just for animals and have been used by grizzly and black bears, wolves, coyotes, cougars, moose, elk, deer, bighorn sheep, wolverine and lynx. We love our wildlife and try to make it safe for them and people.
  • Alberta’s Wood Buffalo National park is bigger than Switzerland and it was created in 1922 to protect world’s largest herd of roaming Wood Bison, and the park is also home to the last known nesting site of whooping cranes.

There you have it folks. Some interesting facts about Canada. Hope you enjoyed it!

The 777 Challenge ~~ Accepted!

Hello, people!

I do hope your weekend was a great one. Today is Thanksgiving here in Canada, so I’m going to be slightly busy with cooking. Nothing fancy for the husband and I, just a big chicken, stuffing, mashed taters, gravy and fresh green beans. I’m going to hate the dishes afterward! 😉

So even though today is Monday, there will be no Monday Meeting this week. It will resume next week. For today, I will be posting the 777 Challenge that my buddy Jeanette Taylor Ford issued to me via Facebook. Seems she is having some computer problems and can’t get on her blog right now. No problem, you can still take a look at her blog as is. Just click her name above and tell her Jackie sent you!

The 777 challenge is to go to page seven from your current WIP or your latest published work, then write down seven sentences from that page. Then I’m to nominate seven other authors to do the same.

I very rarely follow directions completely. ha! So I’m not nominating anyone. I’m just going to put it out there that anyone who wants to do this challenge is encouraged to do so! Go for it.

Here are my seven sentences from my current WIP that will be published October 30th. A Case of Deceit.

Deceit Kindle Cover

“Is Bandoni, Tony’s last name too?” I ask.

“Yes, Cynthia never found a man who can afford her, so she never married.”

Certainly, no love lost there. “Can you get me into Tony’s place? Is that where he was supposed to have killed himself?”

I try to ask these questions as gently as I can. I don’t want to set Angela off again.

There you have it. Hope you enjoyed and are intrigued. Now off I go to do some work! Thank you, Jeanette, for the challenge and I hope you get your computer problems solved soon.

(You can pre-order A Case of Deceit now! Just use the button on my sidebar. Thanks.)

Monday Meeting ~~ On A Tuesday! ~~ September 29, 2015

I’m running late…late…late! So without further ado, let’s get this meeting started.

Monday Meeting

Good morning, afternoon, evening people. I do hope your week is going well. Mine as you can tell is going fast! As I am late with my Monday Meeting. I’ve been one busy lady lately. Busy with what you ask? Well, even if you didn’t ask, I’m going to tell you. Ha!

I told you last Monday that my mother (who lives in Wisconsin) made the request that she wanted a sweatshirt with the Canadian maple leaf and she wanted it to say Canada on it. Now that should have been an easy find, after all, I live in Canada! I’m close to the border, so we get a lot of Americans here, easy peasy, right? WRONG!

I ran all over town and do you think I could find a medium sweatshirt with ‘Canada’ on it with a maple leaf? Nope…not a one in sight. Now, my 86-year-old mother doesn’t need clothes. She is what I call a clothes hog. She lives alone in a three-bedroom house, all the bedrooms have closets…big closets. Do you want to guess what’s in those closets? Clothes, you answer rolling your eyes at my naivety. You would be right, of course, well not at my naivety, so keep those eyes steady will ya, but at the word ‘clothes’. They are full of clothes. My mother’s clothes. All the closets. Every. Single. One. Stuffed full.

They are so full that my mother culls them out a couple of times a year and gives what she doesn’t want anymore to her grandkids. And her granddaughters love wearing Grandma’s clothes! Now see, right there it tells you my mother has good taste in clothes. How many girls want to wear their grandmother’s clothes? Anyway, I digress.

Mom doesn’t ask much from me. Hardly anything in all the years I’ve been gone. So when she put in the request for a sweatshirt I was more than happy to take on the task. Foolish me. Let me give you a rundown on how my last five days has gone.

Day One…I talk to Mom on the phone, she puts in a request for a sweatshirt. No problem. Easy enough done. I talk to the husband and even he thinks it won’t be a big deal. We plan to go the next day. So I carry on with my innocent self, doing my edits on A Case of Deceit. Don’t even think about it much anymore.

Day Two…Still innocent and trusting I get up, have my cups of coffee and off the husband and I go for a little trip into town. First stop, Walmart….look in both women’s and men’s clothing. No Canada sweatshirt. Ok, no problem. We go to a place called ‘Hoodies’ who specialize in hoodies (duh!) T-shirts and sweats. I knew it would probably be expensive, but hey, Mom is worth it and she’s paying for it anyway. Oh yeah, they were expensive but….no ‘Canada’ sweatshirt. The lady sends us to the mall, maybe Sears has one. I hate the mall. Haven’t been to one in more than five years. Don’t want to go…..but….Mom……so I go. Hubby stays in the car, smart man. He can’t walk the mall anyway, too painful. So off I go…a little less innocent, but not jaded….yet.

I search Sears to no avail. I ask in the Women’s department. No Canada sweatshirt. They show me a few, but mom wouldn’t like them. More geared to the teenage crowd. Not for my elderly mother. So I decide to go into the dreaded mall. My eyes darting here and there like a frightened deer. It wasn’t very crowded being the middle of the week. Ok, I can handle this. I find a map of the place. Hm, lots of womenswear, but nothing I really want to venture into. Not even for Mom. Maybe they have a shop for things like I wanted. Hey, I don’t know. I don’t shop, much less shop at the mall. Plus, I’m getting tired.

I’m in the middle of the mall. I’m tired and thirsty and looking for my way out. The mall has kiosks set up throughout. I see one with a handsome young man manning it. He’s dressed like most young men, stylish yet comfortable. He’s in the mall every day, he must know what’s in it. Plus….did I tell you he was handsome? Oh yes, he was. Dark brown hair with eyes to match and a nicely trimmed beard. He also had a smile that lit up his face and eyes that twinkled. Or maybe he thought I was going to buy something. I didn’t care. I wanted to stop and say hi….so I did. Eh, hubby was in the parking lot. I was free….and easy apparently.

So I say ‘hi!’ and ask him if he knew of anyplace in town that sold sweatshirts that said ‘Canada’ on them. His brown eyes get serious and I can see he’s really giving it some deep thoughts. You would have thought I asked him about the world’s politics he gave it such serious thought. He was a nice young man being nice to an old lady that was harboring some nice thoughts of her own. Hey, I’m old, not dead. Anyway, he smiles his megawatt smile at me and says….’Try the Dollar Store! That’s where I go when I want something with ‘Canada’ on it!’

I thank him and tell him I would never have thought of that and take my leave. I find my way out of the hated mall and tell the husband to take me home. I’ve had enough for one day.

Day Three….I get on the internet and try to find the sweatshirt from hell. I find all sorts at Aha! If I can’t find one in town, I will just order her one from Amazon. That’s not cheating is it? No….well ok, maybe. I don’t have to tell Mom do I? I feel my aching legs from yesterday’s excursion and sigh. I do more edits on my story and try to forget about shopping for a while.

Day Four….My stepson tells the hubby (after hubby told him all about our shopping experience, minus the handsome young man, because, well I didn’t tell the husband about him) that he will take the husband to a store that he assures us will have the sweatshirt. Yay! One more day of no shopping for me! So I send the husband off with the son and wish them well (besides, lately the husband doesn’t want to do anything, so I take this as a good sign). I stay home and do housework and more edits. Hm, maybe I didn’t get the better end of the deal…..

The husband comes home empty-handed. No sweatshirt. Dammit. So we make plans to go to one more place the next day that I had thought about while he was gone. Yes, I had a revelation! If this place didn’t have what I wanted, Amazon was going to be visited by the bad daughter and an order would be put forth. Hell is where I was going……..sorry Mom.

Day Five….We get up, have my much-needed coffee and set forth on the quest of the damn sweatshirt. My revelation from the day before? The Tourist Information building! They have a gift store inside, they have got to have all sorts of things that say Canada on them! My legs still ache from day one, so I’m walking slower and going up steps are a bitch….but off we go. It’s on the other side of town. Of course it is. We’ve never been to it because we live here. So, no reason to go.

I grit my teeth and we finally find the place. I’m praying to the tourist gods that they have what I need. We walk inside and are greeted by the nice older man and my eye spots racks of…..shirts! T-shirts! Hoodies! Sweatshirts! They all say Canada on them! YES!!! Paydirt!! I make a beeline over to the racks and I can feel myself becoming something I never thought I would be in this lifetime…..a shopper! I’ve gone over to the Darkside…….

If my legs hadn’t hurt so much, I would have danced a jig….please, no pictures……

I find a couple of shirts I know my mom will like. One even has bling on it! She loves bling……It’s a black zippered sweater/sweatshirt with pink rhinestones that spell out ‘Canada’. Perfect! I also find a shirt that says ‘Lethbridge, Canada’ (where I live). So another score! It has a maple leaf on it too. The husband decides to buy my mother a maple syrup sucker in the shape of a….maple leaf! Hey, I add it to the shirts, she’ll get a kick out of it.

I pay for our purchases and walk out a daughter champion. Guess I’m not going to hell after all. At least not for ordering the shirts from Amazon. But…..maybe for the thoughts about the handsome young man………….ah……it would be worth it!

So hell will have to do without me for a while longer….How’s your week going?

Monday Meeting ~~ September 21, 2015

Monday Meeting

Good Monday everyone! I do hope your weekend was a good one. Let’s get this meeting started.

Come on in. Find what you want to drink on the side table, also there are lots of things to munch on. Come, sit, relax and I’ll tell you about my week and then you can tell me about yours.

I haven’t been doing a lot this past week. More edits on A Case of Deceit. I’m almost done with the first major edits. Whooohooo! Then comes the fine tuning and time for my beta readers. So if you want to be a beta reader, please do let me know.

I am so looking forward to starting work on the next book in the DeeDee Watson, PI series. It’s going to be a fun time had by all. Well except the dead person, but I don’t want to give too much away. 😉

Fall has arrived early in my corner of Canada. The neighbor’s huge tree is turning colors already, at least a month too soon. I do hope this doesn’t mean a long hard winter. I might have to take a picture of it. The wind here as been awful! Blowing day and night. You’d think we live in a wind tunnel.

I learned a scary lesson the other day. I brought up Word to start my edits for the day and the program said the folder no longer existed! It said that I had deleted it! Now, I know I didn’t delete it. I am very conscientious about saving my work. Also, Word saves the work automatically. So I couldn’t figure out how it got deleted! All my edits…gone! Weeks worth. But, then I remember that I have Dropbox and I had set that up to automatically save my work in Word too. So my fingers flew to Dropbox and found the folder! All was not lost.

But…I usually save my books on a flash drive too and this time I had not done that. No more being lazy! Every day after edits are done I now save it in Dropbox AND on a  flash drive. Whew, I am NOT going to lose weeks of hard work because I was too lazy to save it in several places. I got my hand slapped good and proper. Lesson learned.

On the husband front…he now has an appointment with a therapist for Wednesday of this week. So that’s a good thing. The man who came out to the house to evaluate the husband will sit in on the first appointment to help the husband get comfortable with it. I am not going to the therapist with him unless they specifically want me there. I told the husband I want him to feel comfortable with saying anything he wants to the therapist, so I thought it was best I didn’t attend. I do hope he will get some more help with his depression. Maybe the pressure on me will ease a bit too.

I had a pleasant surprise last week also when I called my mother. She told me she wants a sweatshirt that says ‘Canada’ on it…from Canada. So now I am on the hunt for a sweatshirt! I have no idea why she insists she needs one from here, but if it makes her happy, then I will do my best to find one. Somehow I don’t think it will be too daunting a task. 😉 Especially since she is sending me the money for it. She is too funny sometimes. She told me her dialysis doctor told her she is too skinny and she needs to put on some weight. So she said she bought herself some ice cream for the first time in ages. Enjoy yourself Mom! You’re only 86 years young once in your life is what I told her.

Other than my dog Sam catching another mouse, things have been quiet around here. Oh yes, I have two cats. Big cats! But they are a bit on the lazy side. The biggest cat caught the mouse first, then promptly let it go in the living room. This was before I got up the other morning. So it was up to Sam to catch the darn thing for me! Which he did. That little dog is fast! He doesn’t let up either. It took a couple of hours, but he caught it and killed it. I disposed of it. Ugh. Welcome, Autumn to my side of the world! We live in the country, so every fall we have the mice issue. They don’t last long in the house.

That’s about it for me, pretty boring week actually. But that’s ok too, as I don’t like drama. Except in books….. 😉

How have you been doing? Anything exciting happening?

Monday Meeting/Book cover reveal!

Monday Meeting

Hello People!

Yes, it’s really me. I decided to have you all over for coffee/tea/pop/soda/water/whatever you want to drink on a Monday instead of the weekend. I’m just a rebel that way. 😉

Hope everyone’s weekend was a good one. Mine was a mix of lazy and busy. Come to think of it, that could sum up my whole month! Let me tell you a bit of what has been going on in my world lately. Then we’ll get to the book cover reveal! (Unless you scrolled down and peeked already?)

First, what’s with the crazy weather? It’s been so weird in my corner of Alberta, Canada. One day we are hot (36C/97F) to cold and snow! I kid you not. A couple of days ago it snowed just a bit north of me. In August! Where I live it was rainy, windy and cold! It got down to 3c/37F! My poor tomato plants were not happy. Neither was Sam, as he hates cold rain. Today it’s back up to warm, but we have the smoke from Washington state fires drifting over and so it’s  hazy and smoky. It does crazy things with my allergies.

I’ve been busy doing edits on ‘A Case of Deceit’. I’m close to needing beta readers, so look for a call out soon. Unless you want to volunteer now? I’m done with ‘The Canine Caper’ and just waiting for a bit to upload it to Kindle. I want to be able to offer you the opportunity to pre-order the Deceit story at the same time. I’ve been doing this dance between both stories, Amazon and CreateSpace to get it all in order. Whew! I never realized how much work there was in the back-end of putting a book together!

I’ve been lucky in that I have had a ton of help from a couple of great friends. They both advise me on how to do things and give great feedback when I either vent or have a question. They have been both so patient with me. Let me tell you, having friends that are already published and more than willing to give you a hand is priceless. So I want to take this moment to thank them both…Maddie Cochere...without her input my edits would have been much harder to do. She also has given me great advice on so many things on the book and publishing. I love her to pieces. Thank you, Maddie! You’ll be hearing from me again soon I’m sure.

The second person that has helped me tremendously is Aulikki, most know her as tiny from Tiny Lessons Blog. She has helped with beta reading the Caper story, edits, and my new book covers! She is the designer of both book covers…The Canine Caper and A Case of Deceit. Without her help, I would not be able to publish either story. She has been a so supportive in so many ways. A true friend. Thank you, tiny! You are my hero! She did all this for me even though she is one busy woman. I’m always able to email her to ask dumb questions. With the book covers, she took my visions of what I wanted and made them a reality. I think she did an awesome job on them!

I can’t thank tiny enough for all she has helped me with. One day I want to meet both women in person. 🙂 The friendships one forms in Blogville are strong and true. I value them highly with all my friends on here.

Now on to the exciting part! The book cover reveal for A Case of Deceit! Here you go!

Deceit BookCover5_5x8_5_Cream_280 draft9

Isn’t it great? I just love it! Tiny and I agree that it fits the story to a T! (or a Tee 😉 )

So look for The Canine Caper to come out sometime next month, fingers crossed! At the same time or very close to the same time I will be offering A Case of Deceit for pre-order! I’m so very excited and scared. It’s been a lot of hard work, but I’ve learned so many things and friendships have strengthened during this process. I couldn’t have done all this without Tiny’s help and encouragement. I owe her big time!

In fact, I owe so many people who have helped me on this journey, including the beta readers for The Canine Caper. Thank you all!

What do you think of the book cover? Do you have blog friends that never let you down? Let me know!

Flashback Friday

Hello People! I do hope your start of the weekend is a good one. We finally have cooler temps here in my corner of Alberta Canada. We’ve been having some hot days lately, yesterday being one of the hottest ones. It got up to 36C (97F). It’s been in the 30’s (90’s) for a while now so I’m more than ready for some cooler weather.

For Flashback Friday, I’ve chosen to bring back a little story I wrote almost exactly two years ago. It was for a WordPress Daily prompt and one that I had fun writing. Hope you enjoy it!

When the full moon happens, you turn into a person who’s the opposite of who you normally are. Describe this new you.

I sit huddled in the dark corner of my living room. I can feel the pull of the new moon that is rising in the star-studded inky sky.

I dread it every time the full moon rises. My body twitches and itches. My nerve endings tingle with energy. I know what is coming and hate the inevitable.

Clenching my teeth I hug myself tightly. My body rocks back and forth as my fingers dig into my aching arms. My head starts to buzz and I feel my teeth ache. I rock harder and hear myself mumbling a useless litany of words.

“Please, please, not again. No, no, no. I will not turn.”

Again and again I sing this song. I know it won’t make a difference. It always happens on the full moon. Always.

My family has been cursed for centuries. An old ancestor made a very powerful warlock angry and he cursed the females of the family. Every new moon the curse comes alive. For me it is an agony, a torture that I endure. I’m not sure how much longer I can live through it. It weakens me each time. Each time I think will be my last. Each time I pray it will be my last.

Hours before the new moon comes I bar the door and windows. Dozens of locks are put in place and I hide the keys. I make sure my car is not readily available by pulling out cables and hiding those also. I do more and more each time to try to insure I can’t get out of my own home.

I’ve even gone as far as putting my car in someone else’s garage overnight, hoping that it will slow my desires down when the new moon rises. It’s never enough though. Never strong enough locks, the car is never too far away. The moon’s pull is more powerful than all my puny attempts of sabotage.

My rocking slows as I feel the moon’s final pull on my body. The change has come. I sigh deeply and rise from my chair. I know I look different now, I don’t have to search out a mirror to confirm it. I have lived with this never-ending curse for years now. There is no cure, no hope.

I know my eyes have ice in them now. I am cold, calculating. I have changed completely into someone I hate, I fear. My body feels differently now. It’s rigid and tough. I toss back my hair and breath deeply. The change is complete once again.

I have changed into something I have always feared. That is part of the curse. The females change into something they fear the most. Each one is different. Each one is unique in her fears. For me, I have changed into something I am not.  Someone tough, hard and ruthless.

I grab my purse and keys and a brightly colored sales brochure. Yes, the change is complete one more time.

I have changed into a  shoe shopper, a sales shoe shopper!  Goddess help me.

If We Were Having Coffee

Hello, People!

I do hope this first day of August is a great one for you. It’s hard for me to think it’s August already! Seems like the year just started.

If We Were Having Coffee

If we were having coffee, I would invite you inside where there is air conditioning as we are having a very warm day today. Maybe you would like ice coffee instead? Me, I’ll still have mine hot, as I don’t like it iced.

We’ll sit in the coolness and I would tell you how excited I am about several things lately. First, I would tell you how overwhelmed I have been with the offers to guest post on my blog. The response I got from fellow bloggers have been phenomenal. I still have several bloggers who have promised posts that will be forthcoming and have a few more already scheduled for next week. This makes me very happy.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am done with my edits for the first story in the DeeDee Watson, PI series, The Canine Caper! It’s all ready to be formatted and put on Amazon! Also, I have a brand new book cover for the story. Would you like to see it? Yes? All right….here it is…

cover play 5 canine caper

I’m so happy with this new book cover. The last one was good, but this one I think suits the story much better. I just wasn’t satisfied with the last one and how Dee was portrayed on it. I love this one! A friend and I worked for days on this. I found the images and she did the Photoshop work. We are working on the second book cover for ‘A Case of Deceit’ now while I do the edits for the story.

For the Canine story, I am hoping to have it up on Amazon by the end of the month, with the second following a few weeks later. Wish me luck!

If we were having coffee, I would also tell you that I have started a new blog. Yes, I’m certifiably crazy. It’s going to be tied in with the DeeDee Watson, PI books. I’ve been working on it as I have time the last few weeks. It will be…um…different. In a good way I hope! How will it be different? Well, the characters of the books will be writing for the blog, not me. I mean, of course, I will be writing, as the characters are fictional. But…Dee, Fedora and yes even Tee will be there. They will be in charge of what I write, they dictate, I write and post. Confusing? How about you hop on over there after you read this post and give it a look. It’s still a work in progress, but if you want to follow it, it won’t hurt my feelings. 🙂

I’ll try to post on that blog a few times a week. Oh, I guess you’ll need the link, right? Here it is….       ( was already taken, so I just added author on the end)

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the last month has been crazy. Some good, some not so good. First, the weather…whats with the weather? In my little corner of Alberta, Canada we have had some really hot days, some pleasant days and we even had days in the middle of the month that I had to put the heat on! That’s just crazy. But it was cold and rainy and windy and this tin can we call a home was cold and damp. So yeah, I put the heat on. Today? It’s in the low 90’s (low 30’s c). I’m just thankful I have air conditioning.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you about the husband. As most of you know, he has been disabled the last few years with debilitating back pain. He has arthritis of the spine and multiple spurs on the spine. Some days he can hardly get up out of bed. We finally got him in to see a new doctor last week, as his old doctor was doing nothing for him except prescribing stronger and stronger pain medications. This new doctor said it was ‘unusual’ for patients to take this big a dose of pain meds for a ‘degenerative disease’.

In other words, the old doctor would just keep giving stronger pain medication for something that is NOT going to get better, instead of trying to deal with the pain in other ways. Which is why I wanted the husband to go to a different doctor. I knew something was not right when the old doctor would just brush us off when we spoke to him about alternative methods of dealing with the pain. If the doses kept going higher on his pain meds, he would turn into a zombie. The quality of life would be nil. This wasn’t acceptable to me. Or to the husband.

The biggest breakthrough with the new doctor was this…he diagnosed the husband with depression! Finally! I’ve been trying to tell the old doctor for several years that the husband was depressed, he wouldn’t listen to me. This doctor saw it before I even said anything! It’s just not normal for anyone to start to cry for no apparent reason. Which the husband did several times during the doctor visit.

I kept my mouth shut for most of the of doctor visit, (yes I went in the room with the husband.) so I was almost shocked when the doctor said he wanted to ask the husband a few questions dealing with depression. He asked questions, the husband answered and the doctor said from the answers he would say the husband is definitely depressed. He prescribed Zoloft and we set up an appointment with a mental health expert. The doctor explained to the husband that he wants to wean him off the strong pain meds and that with being depressed the husband was feeling a higher degree of pain due to the depression. So it’s a great start! We’ll see what happens next with the therapist.

So I have been having a busy few weeks.

If we were having coffee, I would just relax and after telling you my news I would listen to yours and enjoy your company.

Thanks for joining me and see you soon!

Flashback Friday

Hello, People!

It’s been pretty warm here in my part of Alberta, Canada. Hot and dry. Plus, lots of grass fires surrounding us. Makes for a not so pleasant time outdoors, I can tell you. We had Canada Day on the first of July and I know the US is having their Independence Day celebrations this weekend. Happy fourth of July you guys!

Just please, be careful out there if you are traveling, camping or shooting off fireworks. We don’t want anyone hurt or worse. Also, if you have pets, please keep them safe and secure as this is a very frightening time for them with all the loud noises.

So, because it’s so warm and dry here I thought I would bring back a poem I wrote a few years ago. It remains one of my most popular poems as far as views go. Hope you enjoy!

Have a wonderful weekend no matter where you are at!

Rain Flowers

Spring brings soft rain
winter ends its pain
flowers in glorious color
stand tall and reign

New green grass grows
rain never slows
it’s refreshing drink is savored
only a matter of time I know

Soon color to the land will come
flowers, shrubs, gardens, so awesome
Windows opened wide, no longer
will I be sunk in winter’s boredom

I rejoice in rain clouds in the skies
as birds compete on current highs
Leaves show green on the trees
as if they’ve been brushed with dyes

So let it rain, let it pour all day
I will no longer be winters prey
Gray and gloomy it might be
soon rain flowers will gently sway

Canada Day and July 4th Funnies

Hello, people!

Hope this week is treating you kindly. I just popped in to say hello and Happy Canada Day! Soon it will be July 4th in the States. So I wanted to  have a bit of fun today. I live in Canada, but I’m a US citizen, so who better to poke a little fun at both countries?

I love both countries so know I do this in love only…

Hope you enjoy!

If We Were Having Coffee

Good day people!

“If we were having coffee” is the brainchild of Part Time Monster. I first saw this nice casual catch up kind of post by Nerdy of Nerd in the Brain and I’ve been reading them in other blogs also for a while now.

I love the casual, friendly tone of these posts, so I thought I would do one of my own. To read other’s please click on Part Time Monster’s name above and join in! Thanks.

If We Were Having Coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d smile and welcome you to sit a while and relax with your favorite cup of coffee or tea.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about my busy week of writing. I’ve been trying to finish the last chapter(s) of “Man in the Fedora”, so I can go on and start my April A to Z challenge posts.

I would tell you that I may have bitten off more than I can chew, as my challenge is going to be quite ambitious. I won’t be able to tell you what it is yet, as the reveal date is not till March 23rd.

If we were having coffee, I would confess that this week has been a rather hard one for me as I’ve been trying to get all this done while not feeling well. I might have picked up some kind of stomach bug as my tummy is hurting and I have not felt good all week. I’m even having problems eating and for me that is quite serious! 😉

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the husband is on a new pain medication as his old one of Percocet’s were not doing the job. These are much more powerful according to the doctor. This is his first week taking them, so we are experimenting on the dosage. This morning he said he is feeling more pain-free, so maybe these will help. Fingers crossed. Of course, we know that it’s only temporary and eventually he will need even stronger. But, for now we will take the good.

If we were having coffee, I would smile and tell you I think Spring has come to my corner of Alberta, Canada! We have been having warm weather with lots of sunshine. The trees are in bud and the birds have been busy. Yesterday it was up to 68F (20c). For the middle of March that is fantastic! I love Springtime.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you about Sam’s day of pampering and how his groomer was super excited because he let her trim his nails. Tammy, Sams groomer has been grooming Sam for about 3 years now. She is super patient and loving towards the little guy. But, for all this time he would not let her (or me) trim his nails. He might be small, but boy is he quick! He will squirm and wiggle and yelp like he is being killed when we would attempt to do his nails. I would have to take him to the vets to get them done.

Wednesday he let Tammy do his nails and she was super excited! The last barrier of his trusting her was finally down. When I first got Sam I made the mistake of taking him to different groomers and they managed to hurt him. So he is not a very trusting little guy. When I found Tammy though I knew she would win him over. She comes to the house pulling her grooming trailer and does a wonderful job with him! I’m so glad I found her.

If we were having coffee, I would admit to you that I have been fighting my depression for several weeks now. I don’t use medications or therapy. Never have. Lately, I have been thinking maybe it’s time I sought some help. Still thinking about it as I take enough medications, I don’t want to take any more. So I fight the good fight. Some days I win, some days I don’t. Being unwell does not make it easier, but I won’t give up. I just keep smiling and moving forward.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the husband and I had visitors last night. His brother and sister-in-law came over for about an hour or so. I have to admit I enjoyed the company as I know the husband has. We don’t see too many people anymore since the husband became disabled. I think his ‘friends’ are uncomfortable around him now, they don’t know  how to handle his pain that is very apparent, so they stay away. A shame as it’s now that he needs friendship and companionship the most. Why are people uncomfortable around a sickness? It’s not like he complains about it, he is very stoic. Just a wandering thought I would put out there between us.

If we were having coffee, I bet we would have a lot of laughs and good times. I would refresh your cup and we would enjoy our visit. Thanks for stopping in!

Sam and Me Comic ~~~ Spring Winds

Good day people!

The week is almost over! Soon it will be the middle of March already! How time flies when you don’t want it to!

I do hope you enjoy my new Sam and Me comic. March has come into my area of Alberta Canada like a passive aggressive cow that’s jealous of the lambs and lions of March. The wind! The wind!

It has been pretty windy over in these parts. Today is the first day in a long while that the wind isn’t blowing poor Sam right off the porch. If he really could fly like in my comic, I think he would enjoy it more. 🙂

I’ve been busy around here. I know you haven’t seen me around as much, but I promise it’s for a good reason. I’ve been working on the final chapter(s) of “Man in the Fedora.” Also, in April I am doing the A to Z Challenge. I think you will enjoy what I have planned for that. Stay tuned, as March 23rd is the A to Z Challenge theme reveal. My project might be a bit ambitious so I do hope we are all up to it! Or at least I hope I am!
