Free Book and Catching Up

Hello, People!

Hope everyone is having a great Friday. The kids are back in school and fall is in the air. At least here it is. Autumn has one foot in the door and soon both feet will be firmly planted in my little corner of Canada.

The sky is a deeper blue and the trees have started to change. Speaking of trees. Can a person mourn a tree? I ask because I think I am. The neighbors had a beautiful huge tree in their yard and it was cut down the other day.

I loved that tree.

I mourn for thee!
I mourn for thee!

I don’t know why they cut it down. Well, to be precise, the neighbors didn’t cut it down as we who live in this mobile home park don’t own the land we live on. We rent it. We own the houses but we don’t own the land. The owner had the wonderful tree cut down. I don’t think it was sick. At least it didn’t look sick to my layman’s eyes. It was tall and majestic with lots of leaves. It wasn’t losing branches, even in the strong winds we got. At least not that I noticed.

Now it’s gone. I’m sad that it’s gone. I loved watching the birds flutter in and out of its branches. The leaves turned a majestic gold in the Autumn. I mourn that tree. It seemed such a waste to cut it down.

Moving on.

My friend Mer and I have started a new blog. I’m sure you’ve noticed me repost from it this week. The Thrifty Divas is a blog that we hope will help people on a budget like we are. We plan on having tips on buying on a budget, recipes, and other fun stuff. Give us a read if you haven’t already. It’s going to be a blog for those of us that are poor but proud. We all need help with living well on little. Come join us!

Today Mer has a great post on ‘5 Things to do with 5 bucks’.

Other news.

Today through Monday my book A Case of Deceit is free on Kindle! It’s my birthday Monday the 12th and I thought I would once again offer my book for free to everyone. Just click on the sidebar on the book and it’ll take you straight to Amazon where you can order it for free. Enjoy and please…..if you do read it please leave a review! Even a short one will do. Thanks!

Do you have plans for the weekend? Let me know! I’m nosy that way. 😉

Indie author of the day: Jackie Phillips

My interview for the 2016 2K Indie Book Tour! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did doing it. 🙂

Scarborough Mysteries

Jackie 2009We’ve gone through the first week of our indie book blog tour, which I am co-hosting with the talented Kate M Colby, http://katemcolby.com, and haven’t we had fun! Today is a writer who likes a mystery as much as I do, Jackie Phillips. JL Phillips is a dreamer. Now she is a writer of stories. Being a dreamer is nice but it’s not perfect until you put those dreams in writing and let other people see them. Here she introduces her book, A Case of Deceit:

Private investigator DeeDee Watson receives a desperate phone call from an old college roommate. Dee can’t turn down a plea for help from a friend, so, along with Tee, her trusty sidekick, she agrees to help. It doesn’t take long for Dee to find herself in the middle of something sinister. The more clues she finds the more she realizes all is not what…

Monday Meeting ~ November 23, 2015

Well, look at this! I’m actually having a Monday Meeting on a Monday. Hope you can join me.

Monday Meeting

Hello and thank you for reading. I have a few things to catch you up on today. So, let’s start shall we.

First on the husband front. His colon surgery is tomorrow morning at 9 am. He has to be at the hospital at 6:30 am for check in and pre-op. So, if you don’t see a post from me tomorrow that will be the reason why. Of course, if I was smart I would schedule a post to happen tomorrow, but not sure I’m that smart or ambitious. Ha! I might do a quick post just to let you guys know how he is doing.

He’ll be in the hospital for about 3 to 7 days, depending on how he does. He’s just glad to finally get it over with. Also, during his other pre-op tests last week they found he had some major blockage in his carotid artery on the right side of his neck. Plaque buildup they told us, which could lead to a stroke. Sigh. At least they found it BEFORE he has a stroke. They told us that they will be extra vigilant during the operation and that he can have it dealt with afterward. Meaning, he will be on cholesterol pills and they might have to operate on his artery to clear the blockage. We will face this further bad news later on. Let’s deal with the cancer first.

Poor man, he will be paranoid about tests if this keeps up. I told him, at least they are finding these things out before anything major happens, so it’s a good thing. Please keep him in your thoughts people. All the positive energy helps. Thank you.

A tiny bit of good news. I’ve lost some weight! Yay me. With all the worry, stress, and running around the hospital I’ve managed to lose a few pounds. Now I just need to keep going. Without the worry and stress, though. So I’m not the one having the stroke. My blood pressure is still high and that has me worried too, which doesn’t help. Always something around here with us old folk.

On the book front. I am being super optimistic about the success of the husbands operation and beating cancer that I have scheduled a sale on BOTH my books this week to celebrate. The first book, The Canine Caper will be for FREE on November 25 – 26th! The second book, A Case of Deceit will also be on sale starting November 24th until the 27th. For the first 18 hrs the book will be for 99 cents, then every 18 hrs the price will go up until it hits the regular price. So grab it early for the best price!

Either book (or better yet, both books together) would make a great Christmas gift for any reader in your family! The second book, A Case of Deceit is also available in paperback from CreateSpace, which you can click on through Amazon.

I do hope everyone has an amazing week. See you next time!

Monday Meeting ~~ October 26, 2015

Hello, People! I do hope your weekend was fabulous and that the start of the week goes well for you. Shall we get this meeting started?

Monday Meeting

Grab a drink and a snack and sit a spell.

First, news on the husband. We received the biopsy results of his colonoscopy this past Thursday. It wasn’t the best news, but it wasn’t the worst. He has what they call a “suspicious” tumor in his colon. It’s not classified as cancerous, but it has the potential to become cancerous as it does have cancer cells in it. So the doctor has decided to treat it as cancerous. Confused yet? Yeah, lots of mumbo jumbo for what I would call a pre-cancerous tumor.

They will be operating to remove it soon. Unfortunately the spot it is in means they will  have to remove one-third of his colon. First, though, is a CT scan of his stomach and his lungs to make sure he doesn’t have any more tumors. That won’t happen until the 9th of November. So stay tuned for more updates and thank you for all your warm thoughts for him. We both appreciate it. Another bump in the road of a very bumpy road the last three years, but we will deal with it as best we can.

My book, A Case of Deceit is done and formatted and ready for sale on Amazon on the 30th. Yay!! It is also ready now for buying as a paperback. Just click on the button on my sidebar and enjoy! The sales of my book will help pay for gas money in the coming months for the husband and me to the various doctors and hospital visits we are sure to have to make. Thank goodness I got it done in time. Thank you for pre-ordering or purchasing it. I do hope you enjoy and please, be kind to this author and leave a review! 🙂

I have started my third book in the DeeDee Watson, PI, series. I’m excited for this one as I think it is even better than the others. (Which I hope means I’m getting better) It’s set on a cruise ship with another cast of unforgettable characters including Dee’s mother. Wait until you meet her. 😉 I love her. She’s actually a take on my own mother, but shhhh don’t tell her ok? She’s much more…..um…..well you’ll see. Let’s just say she’s nothing like Dee.

Are you ready for Halloween? Do you even celebrate it? I used to but don’t any longer. Just too tired and wore out lately. But, I love seeing all the stuff out there for it. It’s still one of my favorite holidays. I love all the ghoulish stuff. Wonder what that says about me? ha! We don’t have any kids come around. Don’t see that happening much anymore truth to tell. I think it’s more school activities and private parties. Which is safer these days, but such a shame. I remember going trick or treating in the dark and enjoying all the kids in the neighborhood doing the same. Very few houses didn’t participate back then. It was safe and a lot of fun. Sometimes the changing of the times is not a good thing.

I’ve received quite a lot of birthday cards for my mother the last few weeks. A big heartfelt thank you for all of you who have sent something! I will be mailing them all to her later this week. She knows she is getting something, but doesn’t know what yet. She’s going to love this! I will, of course, let you know what she says when she receives them. So stay tuned for that! You guys are wonderful!

That’s about it for this week. Let me know what’s going on in your little slice of the world! Above all, have some fun people!

The 777 Challenge ~~ Accepted!

Hello, people!

I do hope your weekend was a great one. Today is Thanksgiving here in Canada, so I’m going to be slightly busy with cooking. Nothing fancy for the husband and I, just a big chicken, stuffing, mashed taters, gravy and fresh green beans. I’m going to hate the dishes afterward! 😉

So even though today is Monday, there will be no Monday Meeting this week. It will resume next week. For today, I will be posting the 777 Challenge that my buddy Jeanette Taylor Ford issued to me via Facebook. Seems she is having some computer problems and can’t get on her blog right now. No problem, you can still take a look at her blog as is. Just click her name above and tell her Jackie sent you!

The 777 challenge is to go to page seven from your current WIP or your latest published work, then write down seven sentences from that page. Then I’m to nominate seven other authors to do the same.

I very rarely follow directions completely. ha! So I’m not nominating anyone. I’m just going to put it out there that anyone who wants to do this challenge is encouraged to do so! Go for it.

Here are my seven sentences from my current WIP that will be published October 30th. A Case of Deceit.

Deceit Kindle Cover

“Is Bandoni, Tony’s last name too?” I ask.

“Yes, Cynthia never found a man who can afford her, so she never married.”

Certainly, no love lost there. “Can you get me into Tony’s place? Is that where he was supposed to have killed himself?”

I try to ask these questions as gently as I can. I don’t want to set Angela off again.

There you have it. Hope you enjoyed and are intrigued. Now off I go to do some work! Thank you, Jeanette, for the challenge and I hope you get your computer problems solved soon.

(You can pre-order A Case of Deceit now! Just use the button on my sidebar. Thanks.)

Monday Meeting ~~ Sept. 14, 2015

Good morning people!

I do hope everyone’s weekend was a good one. I know mine was. So let’s get this meeting started.

Monday Meeting

As everyone probably knows by now, Saturday was my birthday. It was a glorious day all thanks to you nice people. So I want to say a big THANK YOU to each and every one of you that stopped by to wish me a happy birthday and for those of you who downloaded a free copy of The Canine Caper. Today the book goes back to the original price.

Over the weekend, you guys made it possible for me to move up the ranks on Amazon short stories to number two in their mystery-thriller category! I was never so shocked and pleased all at the same time! I even took a screenshot to show you. Here it is again because this morning I was back up to number two after falling down the ranks yesterday. Whoohoooo! Thank you again!

Screenshot 2015-09-13 09

That was the best present I could have gotten. 🙂 It didn’t stop there! A few people mentioned me in their blogs, (thank you Frank and Marlene!) It made my day perfect!

Here at home the weather cooperated and it was warm and sunny. I even treated myself to an extra-large cup of Tim Horton’s coffee! Now that was good. I didn’t get a picture of it, but I did manage to remember to get a picture of my birthday cake! Yes, I had birthday cake too! Well, kind of….

b'daycake

It really was just a small chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. Oh, my it was so good though! I had it with my coffee! Nom nom nom…

One more picture and then I’m done showing off (ha!). It’s me holding my proof copy A Case of Deceit! It came in the mail a couple of weeks ago, but Saturday I finally got brave enough to show a picture of me holding it in my hot little hands. So pay no attention to the tired old woman behind the book…take a look at that awesome cover Tiny did for me! The insides of the book still need work, but I got it for the cover anyway. Doesn’t it look great?

Jackiesbook

I would have to say it was the best birthday I’ve ever had. Even my mother wished me a happy birthday on the phone and she never does that! Well, ok, maybe never is a strong word, but it’s been a lot of years since she has. She usually forgets. 😉

Even with all the excitement, I did manage to do more edits on the Deceit book, so it wasn’t all play. I’m going to start asking for beta readers now. I should have it ready for them the end of this week. So, if you are interested in being a beta reader for the Deceit book, let me know ASAP! I will send you a doc or pdf version for you to read. You don’t have to worry about grammar or spelling issues (unless it slaps you along side the head!). I’m looking for plot holes, inconsistencies within the story, things like that.

What do you get for being my beta reader? Besides my undying gratitude, you will receive a free copy of the book either in e-book or paperback form when it’s out. I’ll even try to autograph it for you if you wish! You also get a big old virtual hug from yours truly! What more could a person want?

So, enough about me. How has your weekend been? Have another cup or glass of whatever you are drinking and sit a spell. We’ll have a good conversation, good drinks with good friends.

Monday Meeting ~~ Sept 7, 2015

Good day people! Those of you who are celebrating Labor Day, have a great one. Hope you enjoy your day off if you have the day off. Canada also celebrates Labor Day.

Let’s get this meeting started.

Monday Meeting

I don’t know about the rest of you, but, September has not started out well. Weather wise. It’s cold! For the last three days, I’ve had my furnace on. We’ve had temps in the low 40’s (between 5-8C) during the day and close to freezing at night. Cold rain and wind does not make tomatoes ripen, let me tell you. Right now the sun is fighting the clouds and it’s a balmy 12C (54F). It’s too early for weather this cool.

So as I sip my hot coffee I let my dissatisfaction with the weather slip away. Ah, coffee makes most things tolerable.

I have some news on the husband front. Tomorrow we have a meeting set up with someone who is (supposedly) going to help us file paperwork with the government to get him some more help, financially and medically. The great thing is this person is coming to the house! They called last week and set up an appointment. As he explained it to us on the phone, the mental health clinic that the husband talked to last month got in touch with this guy from the government. They told him the husband needs to apply to some programs to receive help as his depression is caused partly because we need the help! Well, duh, I could have told them that if they asked.

The nice thing is the husband doesn’t have to take a painful car ride somewhere. He can stay in the comfort of the house and have someone come to him. Should be interesting. Guess that means I should tidy up some, eh? Of course I could tell the guy I’ve decorated early for Halloween. 😉 Cobwebs and all! Ha!

Have I mentioned the allergies? No? Well, my allergies have been going crazy lately! Watering eyes, sniffles, sneezing, hoarseness, itchy ears. My goodness, it’s been bad this time of the year. But, I soldier on….feeling sorry for me yet? Hey, I’m trying! Don’t worry, it’ll pass. So I’ll stop whining about it. For now.

On the book front, I want to thank everyone who has purchased The Canine Caper, you guys are the best! I do hope you enjoyed it. I’m diligently working on the next to final edits for A Case of Deceit. I’m happy to say I’m on target with those. I also got the proof of the paperback version of the cover last week. It looks amazing! Thank you again Tiny for all your hard work.

Something funny happened when the proof came in the mail. The husband watched me open it and then grabbed hold of the book almost before I could get a good look at it. I told him it was just a proof so I could see how the cover looks. The story inside would not be right as I had yet to do the edits. He said he didn’t care, he was going to read it. I almost fell out of my chair! He has NEVER read anything I have written. NEVER! But, he was determined he was going to read this unedited book.

I was so nervous. First, he rarely reads books. He’s more of a newspaper, TV sort of man. He went to reading and barely set the book down all day until he was finished! He shuffled into my office where I was working on the computer, handed me the book and said, “I’m proud of you. It was a great story. It had me interested from the beginning, where I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Your story had me turning the pages until the end.”

I don’t think I have ever felt more proud of myself than when I heard him say that. Now he is an honest man. Believe me he wouldn’t say it if he didn’t mean it. He never hesitates to tell me if I’ve done something wrong. He is also not a book reader by nature. So for him to read it in one day was an accomplishment! He liked it…he really liked it! haha!

Next I have to pass the Mom test, as she has informed me she wants a copy of the book when it’s out. Uh oh….

On a more cheerful note…Saturday is my birthday (the 12th) and don’t forget about my weekend birthday party! I’m not sure what exactly I’ll have going on but I do know I’ll hopefully have The Canine Caper on sale for the weekend. So stop on by sometime during the weekend and get a copy of The Canine Caper if you haven’t already done so!

I have finally put up some buttons on my sidebar with pictures of the books where all you have to do is click on them and they will take you to Amazon where you can order them. I’m slow, but I get there eventually.

That’s about it for this Monday Meeting. Hope to see you this weekend! Until then, have a great day!

Monday Meeting and an Announcment!

Monday Meeting

Good day, People! I hope your weekend was wonderful and you got some fun in.

Welcome to my new Monday Meeting posts. I had my first one last Monday, as I just can’t seem to get a post done on the weekend for the #coffeeshare thing. It’s easier for me this way, so here I am with my second one. I do hope you enjoy these meetings. Have one of your own if you like! Just let me know and link up! I would love to read yours.

Come on in, sit down, have your favorite drink and maybe a cupcake. I’ll forgo the cupcake myself, but I do enjoy seeing my guests enjoy themselves.

Let’s get this meeting started.

August is over with already. It just seems like it only started a few days ago. Time is moving by way too fast. In a couple of weeks, my birthday will be here. I’ll have a special post on that day as I will be reaching a milestone birthday! So mark your calendars for September 12th. It’s a Saturday and I’m sure you all are super busy on weekends, but I do hope you will stop in for a quick peek and to say hi! Join my birthday party! Likely the only one I will have. Sad, eh? 😉

Some of you have inquired on how the husband is doing lately. I really need to do a new post on that, but for now I will let you know here. He has his good days and his bad days. The new medicine for depression is taking a while kicking in. The doctor reassured us this is normal. He’s on Zoloft right now. This might change once he sees a therapist. He’s had one meeting with the mental health clinic a couple of weeks ago. He was supposed to hear from them for an appointment to see a regular therapist, but this hasn’t happened yet. So we wait. He’s been having a lot of problems going to sleep at night and then staying asleep even though he takes two sleeping pills. The new doctor put him on another pill and we’ll see if that works better.

The other day he didn’t get out of bed all day. Nothing would induce him to, so I let him be. It’s worrisome though, as the more he lays in bed, the worse the arthritis gets. I understand he hurts, but  he needs to understand that NOT moving makes it worse. But, I’m not going to nag him about it. I just keep doing what I can. That’s all I can do.

The other news I have is very exciting! I’ve been waiting months to say this…

I’m published on Amazon!

Yes, finally, The Canine Caper is finished, formatted and published on Amazon! Also, A Case of Deceit is ready for pre-order! The Canine Caper is a short story, so I’m not going to be doing a paperback version of it. A Case of Deceit, which is a full-length book, will also be available in paperback at the end of October. So, for the book A Case of Deceit, on October 30th it will be available in both e-reader and paperback form.

So many of you have followed my journey to publishing from the very beginning and I thank you for that. Now, my dream is realized. I’m so happy!

Here are the links for both books on Amazon for the US;

In Canada:

A Case of Deceit

I am going to try to have a sale my birthday weekend on The Canine Caper. So if you want you can wait….but who wants to wait. 🙂

Sometime today I hope to have buttons on my sidebar that you can click that will take you to the Amazon book sites.

For now, I need to get back to my edits! Thank you for coming to the Monday Meeting and I’ll see you soon!

(If anyone wants to be kind enough to spread the word out about the books, I would be so grateful!)

Monday Meeting/Book cover reveal!

Monday Meeting

Hello People!

Yes, it’s really me. I decided to have you all over for coffee/tea/pop/soda/water/whatever you want to drink on a Monday instead of the weekend. I’m just a rebel that way. 😉

Hope everyone’s weekend was a good one. Mine was a mix of lazy and busy. Come to think of it, that could sum up my whole month! Let me tell you a bit of what has been going on in my world lately. Then we’ll get to the book cover reveal! (Unless you scrolled down and peeked already?)

First, what’s with the crazy weather? It’s been so weird in my corner of Alberta, Canada. One day we are hot (36C/97F) to cold and snow! I kid you not. A couple of days ago it snowed just a bit north of me. In August! Where I live it was rainy, windy and cold! It got down to 3c/37F! My poor tomato plants were not happy. Neither was Sam, as he hates cold rain. Today it’s back up to warm, but we have the smoke from Washington state fires drifting over and so it’s  hazy and smoky. It does crazy things with my allergies.

I’ve been busy doing edits on ‘A Case of Deceit’. I’m close to needing beta readers, so look for a call out soon. Unless you want to volunteer now? I’m done with ‘The Canine Caper’ and just waiting for a bit to upload it to Kindle. I want to be able to offer you the opportunity to pre-order the Deceit story at the same time. I’ve been doing this dance between both stories, Amazon and CreateSpace to get it all in order. Whew! I never realized how much work there was in the back-end of putting a book together!

I’ve been lucky in that I have had a ton of help from a couple of great friends. They both advise me on how to do things and give great feedback when I either vent or have a question. They have been both so patient with me. Let me tell you, having friends that are already published and more than willing to give you a hand is priceless. So I want to take this moment to thank them both…Maddie Cochere...without her input my edits would have been much harder to do. She also has given me great advice on so many things on the book and publishing. I love her to pieces. Thank you, Maddie! You’ll be hearing from me again soon I’m sure.

The second person that has helped me tremendously is Aulikki, most know her as tiny from Tiny Lessons Blog. She has helped with beta reading the Caper story, edits, and my new book covers! She is the designer of both book covers…The Canine Caper and A Case of Deceit. Without her help, I would not be able to publish either story. She has been a so supportive in so many ways. A true friend. Thank you, tiny! You are my hero! She did all this for me even though she is one busy woman. I’m always able to email her to ask dumb questions. With the book covers, she took my visions of what I wanted and made them a reality. I think she did an awesome job on them!

I can’t thank tiny enough for all she has helped me with. One day I want to meet both women in person. 🙂 The friendships one forms in Blogville are strong and true. I value them highly with all my friends on here.

Now on to the exciting part! The book cover reveal for A Case of Deceit! Here you go!

Deceit BookCover5_5x8_5_Cream_280 draft9

Isn’t it great? I just love it! Tiny and I agree that it fits the story to a T! (or a Tee 😉 )

So look for The Canine Caper to come out sometime next month, fingers crossed! At the same time or very close to the same time I will be offering A Case of Deceit for pre-order! I’m so very excited and scared. It’s been a lot of hard work, but I’ve learned so many things and friendships have strengthened during this process. I couldn’t have done all this without Tiny’s help and encouragement. I owe her big time!

In fact, I owe so many people who have helped me on this journey, including the beta readers for The Canine Caper. Thank you all!

What do you think of the book cover? Do you have blog friends that never let you down? Let me know!
