Thanks To All Of You, I Have A New Mattress!

First, I want to thank everyone who donated to my fundraiser for a new mattress! You guys are the best and I ❤ each one of you.

Now for the really exciting news! I have purchased a new mattress and it came yesterday! Yay!!

I have before and after pictures to show you! With a bit of Jackie weirdness thrown in. What can I say? You love me anyway, right?

So first, let’s say bye-bye to the old, devilish mattress, shall we?

Bye-Bye, you old devil!
Bye-Bye, you old devil!

No! That’s not real blood, although most nights it felt like it should have been. Don’t let the good looks fool you people. It was a devil bed! Evil I tell you! If you look close at the headboard you will see how the mattress is not straight across, it starts high, dips, then goes high again. It felt a lot worse than it looks. The only reason it looks good is because it’s been protected by a mattress protector. Believe me, it was not a nice mattress.

Now, on to the new!

First I went looking for a mattress when I couldn’t stand it one more night. All the generous friends that donated made this trip possible. The Brick, a furniture store in town had a big mattress sale going on. Half off! So I jumped at the chance. Took the money you all gave me out of the goodness of your hearts and bought a new mattress!

Off to the store I went!
Off to the store I went!

They wouldn’t let me take pictures inside the store, but I did manage to get a shot of the outside. It was a nice sunny day too, a harbinger of better things? Perhaps!

I knew what I wanted, the type of mattress, so I was on a mission!

I talked to the nice salesman, Daryl. He was very helpful and not at all pushy. I told him what I wanted and he showed me a few mattress’s. The first one was nice, real nice, but out of my price range. Why are mattress’s so expensive?

Anyway, he showed me another one, but it was not comfortable to me at all. I told him how much I had to spend and he showed me another one. Yes! I found the mattress for me. So I bought it. Now, I had to wait 4 more days till they could get it in the store and for me to pick up. Dammit!

Wait I did. My husbands son offered to pick it up for me on Tuesday with his truck. He didn’t think it would fit in my minivan. Hey, I’ll take help when I can get it! So off we went on Tuesday morning to pick up my new angelic mattress! Yay!!!

Sam approves of the new mattress! See his smile?
Sam approves of the new mattress! See his smile?

I couldn’t seem to be able to shoot a pic of the new mattress without Sam being in it. So here it is! No dips, no broken springs, no more evil!

I slept on it last night for the first time. It will take some adjustment on my part, as I’m not used to this! It’s soft and level and now I can even sleep on my right side! With the old mattress I couldn’t because it was just too uncomfortable with the right side being higher. It just killed my old joints.

This morning, my knee felt better, I felt better. So thank you again kind, generous friends. This means the world to me. If there is anything I can do to help you or someone else I will! No hesitation! Pay it forward!

With A Little Help From My Friends

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mmm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mmm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

I’m sure most of us recognize these lyrics from the Beatles hit “With a little help from my friends.”

This is a hard post to write, but I can’t see any other choice right now. I’m asking for help, from my readers, friends and even strangers. I’m not good at this, so bear with me please.

I wrote a post a little while back about goals for this year. My number one goal was to get a new mattress, as the one I have is broken down. I call it ‘the mattress from hell’. I said it in a light-hearted manner. But it’s anything but lighthearted. This mattress is terrible. I hurt worse when I get up in the mornings than when I go to bed at night. I haven’t had a decent night’s sleep in almost 2 years.

On one side it has a big dip, where the springs were broken in moving. The other side is higher. It’s not half and half either. The high side is about 1/3 of the bed, the broken side is the biggest part. If I lay on one side, I’m laying in a hole. I’ve put a folded up blanket on the mattress to try to fill in the dip. Doesn’t really work.  There really is no laying on the high side, as it’s too narrow, so if I try I roll down into the dip. Like I said, the bed from hell.

I jokingly said I was going to start a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new mattress. At the time, even I thought I was kidding. As the days (and nights of torture) passed, I began to really give this idea some serious thought. I had a few blogging buddies tell me, ‘go ahead! Do it!’. So, I am.

I see no other way to come up with the funds to purchase a new mattress. I wish I did.

Most of you know that my husband is disabled and that we live on a very limited budget. There is just no room for a new mattress. There isn’t even room in the budget to save for one!

The reason I have decided to start a fundraiser is simple. I need my sleep. I need to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband and the household. There is no one else around that can do it. Just me. I’m starting to develop health problems related to bad sleep on a bad mattress. I can’t afford to be sick. We have applied to various agencies for help. We have gotten very limited help so far. We are still trying. I won’t give up.

In the meantime, I have been thinking about how I could afford a new mattress. This is what came to mind. I set up the fundraiser page late yesterday afternoon. There is a button on my sidebar that you can click that will take you to the fundraiser page. There I explain why I started it and how much I would like to raise. All monies will go through PayPal, which is super easy to send money from. It’s accepted worldwide and has an excellent reputation.

It’s a modest sum, actually. I’m trying for a thousand dollars. I’ve got it marked for March 31, as the end date. So, in less than 3 months I am hoping I can raise enough for a new mattress. Anything I might possibly get over the thousand will be earmarked for a new refrigerator, as ours is dying fast.

At first it might seem a bit frivolous, but believe me, lack of sleep is anything but frivolous. Anyone, who has insomnia knows this. Anyone, who has sleep issues knows this. I certainly do!

This is where you, my readers and my friends come in. I’m asking for donations. Every little bit helps. I’m also asking for reblogs, or any other form of passing this on.

It’s not easy asking for help. I’ve always taken care of myself. Now, I have a disabled husband to think of also. Plus a dog and two cats. My fur babies. My responsibilities.

So, please dear friends, if you can help, do so. If not, I understand completely. If you can’t help money wise, maybe a reblog, send it out further into the wide world of internet. I deeply appreciate any and all help!

So click the sleeping woman button over there ———————->

I can get by with a little help from my friends.

A good friend emailed me a few days ago and suggested I start a fundraising page. They also said if I reach my goal, it might be fun to take a video of the shopping experience and purchase of the new mattress. What do you think? I think it would be fun too! I can bring you along for the shopping experience! After all, if it wasn’t for you guys, I wouldn’t be shopping for one in the first place!

Looking Forward

Hello people! Hope that you had a great NYE and are not too hung over. I don’t drink, so I’m good. I couldn’t even stay up till midnight last night. I’m getting old, I tell  you.

I’m not a person who makes New Year’s resolutions. Why set myself up for failure? I do make goals for myself, though. Goals I try to achieve throughout the year.

2014 was a terrible year for me. I’m glad it’s gone and a new one beginning. So instead of looking back, I’m going to look forward. Forward to a better year, reaching some of my goals, and making good inroads with other goals. I may not succeed in accomplishing everything I set for myself and that’s ok. I haven’t failed, it’s just going to take a little longer to achieve what I want. That’s the nice thing about goals, if you don’t get them done within a certain period of time, you can just keep going till you do. No failure. I like that. A little kindness to myself never goes amiss.

So here is my top goals for 2015! May the New Year roll on in! Bring it!

1. Burn my damn mattress! My number one goal for this new year may sound strange to you, so let me explain. I have the bed from Hell. I do. It is the most uncomfortable thing going. Its springs are broken thanks to the bunch of guys that helped move us more than a year ago. They set my almost new mattress on the bottom of the pickup truck bed, placed a glass cupboard on it and strapped that thing down so hard it broke the springs in the mattress. It’s not even in the middle of the bed! I have one side that is like sleeping in a hole, the other side is higher up. If I lay on it, since it’s not quite half the mattress I slide down the slope into the hole. Not good for sleeping!

My number 1 goal for this year is to be able to afford a new mattress (though I have NO idea how I’m going to do this!). Then I am going to drag my old mattress into the yard, pour gasoline on it and set it on fire! I am going to laugh, and laugh, and laugh while the flames leap up into the sky!

2. Lose weight. Yes, I know just about everyone says this in the New Year. I usually don’t, because it’s sort of cliché. This year I’m breaking my own rule and adding this in as a goal. I’m not going to state numbers. I don’t even own a scale. Got rid of that thing years ago.

For health reasons (I’m a diabetic) I am setting one of my goals for losing weight. I have to, I need to, and dammit, I’m going to! Losing weight will help me get healthier. I will need this for when I drag my mattress through the house, into the yard and set it on fire! I will cackle like a crazy woman as I watch it burn! I will need to be healthier to do this.

3. Exercise more. Yes, it goes with losing weight. I sit in my comfy office chair in front of my trusty computer far too many hours a day. From morning to-night. I need to get off my butt and go take Sam for a walk or something. Only in warmer weather though, as walking the little guy in freezing ass weather is more torture for both of us than exercise. During the winter I will do something else. Maybe practice runs, dragging my mattress through the house so I can set it on fire and dance with wild abandon around the blaze!

4. Write more stories. I really let myself down this past year. I didn’t write as much as I wanted to. I have 3 novels in the works in different stages of completion. I need to finish at least one of these and start the hunt to get it published! I want to write more flash fiction, short stories and the like. I have no excuse for not doing so last year, except for maybe sleep deprivation from sleeping on the mattress from hell. Which I plan to burn this year. I will even write its eulogy. Then I will set it on fire and because I lost weight and am healthier I will jump up and down with glee as it watch it burn!

5. Read more blogs and comment more. I actually read quite a few blogs. Like everyone though I have favorites that I love to read everything they post. Most of the other blogs I read, but usually don’t comment. I’m actually pretty shy. (Ok, quit laughing!) I’m an introvert by nature and quiet. I lurk a lot. I need to stop that and engage in conversations. After all, it’s  the polite thing to do. I will do this right after I burn my bed. I will light that sucker aflame and throw a bed burning party! Yes, I will. You just watch me!

Whew, so that’s the biggest goals I have for this bright, shiny, new year. I have several other personal ones, that I will keep to myself for now. A girl has to have some secrets.

As for the mattress burning party, you are all invited!! Maybe, I should start a Kickstarter thing, anyone who donates money toward a new comfy mattress will have a personal invite to the bed burning with cocktails and brunch with me, where we can watch it burn and laugh and laugh and laugh.

What do you think? Good idea? So who wants to donate for a good cause?? Anyone?
