Monday Meeting ~~~ January 25, 2016

Hello, People!

I hope everyone survived the blizzards and other weird weather this past weekend. The weather here was warmer than usual and our snow melted. I thought some of you would appreciate that tidbit of news. 😉

Monday Meeting

Today’s Monday Meeting is going to be a little different. As I really don’t have much news to impart.

The husband is on his second round of chemo for his colon cancer. He’s holding up well. Not much in side effects. His blood pressure dropped and he’s more tired. Otherwise not much else, which is great. His cancer doctors said not to worry too much about the blood pressure as they have found out that low blood pressure is not as dangerous as it was made out to be in the past. This is his second month on the chemo, he has four more months to go. We just take things a day at a time.

He even gained a few pounds, so that was good news too. He went from being 5’9 inches and 100 pounds even, to 105 pounds. Every pound on him is a good thing. Even if he shrank a few inches as when we first got together he was 5’11. I keep telling him he don’t watch it he’ll be shorter than me! ha!

So, that’s about it with the news.

I thought I would add something to this weeks meeting. There has been an ABC post going around. I first read it on Holly’s blog, than a few others joined in. So I thought I would do it too. It’s been a long time since I did one of these. And, of course, it’s all about ME!

The ABC’s About Me, Me, ME!

A: Age – Older than dirt! Oh ok, 60. Geesh.

B: Biggest Fear – Not being able to care for myself in my old age. Being in a nursing home. Scares the crap out of me. Not going to happen if I can help it.

C: Current Time – Noon

D: Drink I last had – Anyone want to take a guess? Well if you know me at all you’ll know it’s….Coffee!

E: Easiest person to talk to – I have a really good, good friend that I email all the time. I can tell her anything and everything and she never judges and always has wise advice.

F: Favorite Song – Now this is impossible to answer. I love music. So I’m passing on this one.

G: Grossest Memory – Wow, after 60 years of living there are a lot of them! I would have to say the winner is a restaurant kitchen I saw once. The ex and I owned a carpet cleaning business back in the day. We cleaned mostly business’s. There was a restaurant that wanted the dining room carpet cleaned. We had to fill the machines with hot water from the kitchen. This kitchen smelled, it had bugs, the floor was so greasy we had to be extra careful not to slip and bust our asses. We saw mice and droppings under the sinks. It was the dirtiest, most disgusting thing I ever saw! Not too long after we worked there it was closed down for health reasons. Gee, no surprise there!

H: Hometown – Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Left there when I was twenty, never been back.

I: In love with – Well, I do have an ongoing love affair with…Coffee! Also, with books. Yeah, I’m a word slut.

J: Jealous of – I had to really sit and think on this one. I came up with….nothing. I used to be jealous of people who had a lot of money. Then I got to know a few of them. They aren’t happy people. So I stopped being jealous. I used to be jealous of talented people. You know the ones. The ones that could paint and write and do other talented things. Then I realized I have talent too. I paint and write. I know how to live on next to nothing. Believe me, that takes real talent! The older I get the more I realize there is always going to be people who do things better than me, have more things than I do. And that’s ok. I stopped comparing myself to others long ago. I’m much more content now.

K: Killed someone? – No, I haven’t. I have shot at people before. If I wanted to kill them I would have. I’m a good shot. I only shot at them in self-defense. If I wouldn’t have, I wouldn’t be here now. That’s a whole ‘nother story. Let’s move on.

L: Longest Relationship – Depends on the relationship. Romantically, it would be the husband. This one, not the first one. Will be fourteen years in September. Other relationship I guess would be with my mother. 😉

M: Middle Name – Lynn

N: Number of Siblings – Real ones? Or just the ones I claim? Eh, ok, real siblings….three….one older sister, one younger and one older brother.

funny-family-quotes (1)

O: One Wish – Is this like the Miss America questions? If so, then world peace. If it’s meant for a personal wish, then…..better health. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.

P: Person You Last Called – My mom.

Q: Question You are Always Asked – Where are you from? I always get asked this when I have spoken to someone for more than a few words. I lived in the South for over twenty years. I guess I still have a bit of the southern or Texan accent. I’m told with just certain words or if I get angry or excited or nervous. Then my accent gets stronger. Since living here, I always answer this question with a much more pronounced accent….I live in Southern Alberta…..gets a laugh every time.

R: Reason to smile – Hell, just waking up every morning is a reason to smile. My dog Sam. Sunshine. Writing. Music. COFFEE! Friends. Just living life.

S: Song you last sang – A silly little made up ditty to my dog Sam. Where no one else could hear. Believe me, you don’t want to hear me sing. If you even want to call it that.

T: Time you woke up – Midnight, 2 am, 4 am, 6 am, 8 am, finally got out of bed to get coffee at 8:30 am. Getting old is not for sissies.

U: Underwear color – Um, that’s kind of a pervy question…..moving on.

V: Vacation Destination – What is this ‘vacation’ thing you speak of?

W: Worst habit – Swearing…..a lot.

X: X-rays you’ve had – Knee, shoulder, stomach, lung, hand

Y: Your Favorite Food – Lasagna

Z: Zodiac Sign – Virgo, …yup that’s me.

See you next Monday!

Share Your World – 2014 Week 13

Hello people!

It’s time for another edition of Share Your World. Cee from Cee’s Photography asks us 4 questions that we answer and share.

So there is this week’s questions. Thank you for reading! And please feel free to comment. I love comments!

Do you believe in extraterrestrials or life on other planets?

Yes, I do. We can’t be the only intelligent life out in that big, huge galaxy. We are nothing but a tiny speck in the universe, we cannot be so arrogant as to assume we are the only ones out there.

What type of pet or pets do you not want to have?

I love all animals, I do. But I would not have spiders, or snakes as pets. Never! What if they got out? No! Uh uh, no way. I would not be able to sleep just thinking they might escape.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

Oh, it would have to be something bright. Like red, orange, yellow, any really bright color full of hope and happiness.

What type of transportation would you be? Why?

At my age, it’s going to have to be something slower than a race car. LOL  Maybe a nice pretty scooter. It shoots along pretty good, gets into tight places and is fun to drive. Easy on the wallet, yet classy.  It fits two people, but they need to be real close. As an introvert, not everyone is invited to join me and my scooter.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

This last week I’m grateful to best friends, plans coming together and communication.  As for this week, I’m looking forward to some of the same. I’m easy to please.

Share Your World – 2014 Week 11

Hello people! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know it’s Monday for most of us, but don’t let that get you down. It only lasts 24 hours!

Since it’s Monday, it’s time for Cee’s Share Your World, where Cee asks us four questions and we answer them. Why? Well to get to know each other just a little better. It’s a nice thing, enjoy! Or better yet, come join us!

share-your-world2

If you were an ice cream cone how many scoops and flavors would you be and why?

I don’t really care for ice cream cones, so I think I will go with something else. Also, I’m a diabetic, so ice cream is a rare treat, usually reserved for the hottest days of summer. I love frozen yogurt. When it first came out years ago, it was kind of nasty. But now they have improved it a lot. If I can find a place that serves soft serve frozen yogurt, in a dish.  I would be there getting me some. So I guess my answer would be no scoops and vanilla or chocolate. Or both!

Are you left or right handed?

I am right-handed. I can write my name if I have to left-handed, but it’s not the best.

Before making a phone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say?

I do it a lot. I hate talking on the phone and avoid it if possible. If I have to call a company about something I practice and I write things down so I don’t forget. Introverts do this a lot. 🙂

funny-pictures-cat-ignores-your-phone-call

How many rings before you answer the phone?

If I have to answer the phone I will let it ring about 3 times. Maybe 4. If I don’t have to answer the phone I don’t answer it. Ha-ha! Oh, and I don’t have voice mail either.  No way to leave a message. Yeah, I’m ancient school. Or cheap. Take your pick.

The reason for no voice mail is simple. I don’t have nor use a smart phone. Land line mostly. I got tired of messages from telemarketers or bots, so when my voice message machine died I never got another one. And have refused to put one on through my phone provider. Eh, if it’s important they will call back. Plus, I have caller ID, if I’m out, I check that when I get back and if someone called whom I want to call back I do, but usually not.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for good friends, staying in touch with them on here or in emails. I am grateful that the weather seems to be getting warmer so spring can’t be far behind. I am looking forward to even warmer weather and longer days.

Share Your World – 2014 Week 10

This week is a special share your world at Cee’s photography,  as it is also Chris’s first Club Introvert Social Gathering.

Yes, I am an introvert. There I admitted it. I may not seem like an introvert on here, but I am. So now I am asked to do a little socializing. I’m sure I can handle it, after I answer this week’s questions.

share-your-world2

Describe yourself in a word that starts with the first letter of your name.

As my first name is Jackie, I could use jolly, but I’d be lying. Judicious is more me. The meaning of judicious is; showing good judgment; wise. If you are considered judicious, people usually come to you for advice. Yeah, that’s me as people always ask my advice and I’m more than willing to give it. I also like to think I have a good judgement of situations and people. As for wise, well, that’s probably debatable. Hahaha.

If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think you’d find leading a more satisfying life than yours?

I’d say 101. Truth! Well, ok, maybe not the truth so much anymore, as my life seems to be getting so much better lately. But I would say…..95 then. Now come back in say a year and ask me that and I’m hoping the answer would change to 0!

If you were a tree, would you become a book or furniture? Please describe.

Well, I would rather not kill a tree to become anything. As I would rather hug a tree instead.  If I must then a book. One that will be read with pleasure through out time.

You are trapped in an elevator, who would you want to be trapped with?

My best friend, I would have so much fun with them! We would swap stories and laugh and cut up. Might as well have fun if I’m going to be trapped.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I’m grateful for living another week. Good friends. And tree hugging. Yes, I am grateful for that too.  I am looking forward to more of the same.  But if some surprises come my way I’ll be happy. As long as they are good ones. Ha-ha!

Share Your World – 2014 Week 8

Cee’s Photography blog has a weekly thing going. She gives you 4 random questions to answer on your blog. Her questions are always fun. This week’s questions are below with my answers. Come play along if you wish!

Just click on Cee’s name above and see what it’s all about!

Would you rather be given $10,000 for your own use or $100,000 to give anonymously to strangers?

Now $10,000 would be great to have. I could find a use for it for sure. But, to have $100,000 to give away? That would be fun! I know of a couple of people who could sure use some help right now. If I had to give away to absolute strangers, I could do that too. Go to homeless shelters and find a woman with young kids, or a young family that needs some help. Find them a nice place to live, maybe give them enough groceries to last a while. Help them get nice clothes to go for job interviews. Pay for babysitting so the parents can go out and look for work. Help them get their dignity and pride back.  There are so many needy families out there to help. I would also give some to my no kill animal shelter, so they wouldn’t have to worry about food, vet care or other things, while they find homes for all the animals. Hmm, I’m thinking I would need a bit more than $100,000 to do what I want to do. But it’s a start!

When you’re 90 years old, what will matter most to you?

What will matter most? Seeing I reach 91! Ha-ha! Seriously, I have no idea, when I get there I will let you know. I think my first thought would be, I hope I’m not in a home somewhere. Or if I am it’s a good one. I hope that my mind is still clear. I’m not real worried about that one, as many of my family have lived well into their 90’s with their minds intact. My mother is 84 and sharp as a tack. Not much you get over mom. My health will probably matter most.

Candy factories of the entire world have become one and will now be making only one kind of candy. Which kind, if you were calling the shots?

I am a diabetic. And do you know sugarless candy usually sucks and not in a good way?? Not to mention if eaten too much, you will live in the bathroom for the next 24 – 48 hours?? Truth! I tried some  candy that was sugar-free when I first became diabetic. Not my greatest idea. I mean, really, who can eat just one piece of candy? They tasted great! So I was working away and eating a piece here and there thinking nothing of it. A couple of hours later, my hell began. It’s the best tasting colon cleansing stuff out  there! Enough said about that! So now, for the most part I stay away from candy. If I do need a piece because the cravings are too bad I have a regular piece and call it good. My favorites? Peanut M & M’s.

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house?

I own an umbrella??  If I do, it’s news to me. Ok, I admit, I don’t own an umbrella. Sometimes I wish I did and every time I have to take Sam out in the rain, I tell myself to get one. Sam won’t go out to potty in the rain unless I go out with him. Yeah, he figures if he has to get wet, so do I.  I do have a fenced yard. But he refuses to go out the door when it’s raining. Unless I go to. So I do. Because it’s better than the alternative. Not that Sam potties in the house, he doesn’t. He has a bladder of steel. I just hate to see the little guy in misery because it’s been raining all day. And what’s a little rain water? When it’s warm, it’s even fun. Brings the kid out in me.

So what would your answers be?
