  1. Well now, that quote just made me stop and look in the proverbial mirror. I’ve always been pessimistic for the more part. It’s something I continually struggle with. Good one, Jackie!

  2. I fully agree! I’m more of an optimist and have fallen from my “branch” a few times, but it’s better than never reaching the branch 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

  3. Perfect, yes. I’m generally always on the optimist side. I’m not sure that it’s something we can choose though – I think it’s a fairly inherent part of our personality to be more one or the other, what do you think? I know we can make efforts against our inherent traits, but ultimately we revert to our nature. Interestingly I read something a while back (not sure if it’s true, but it makes sense) which said that it’s more natural for humans to be pessimists because it’s a survival thing, like back in the days when we lived more primally with nature, if for instance a creature approached us, if we thought “Ooh, this might be a friendly creature, let me pet it” then we might die, whereas if we thought “This creature might eat me, I need to get out of here” then we might survive. So pessimism in theory is more protecting, if we expect the worst, then we might do things to protect ourselves against them. Even if that’s true, I’m still much more pleased to be an optimist! 🙂

    1. Interesting theory on why most people are pessimists. If you think about it, it does make sense. I’m not sure that’s a true pessimist though. More like a survivalist. 🙂

      1. I guess it’s connected though, to be a good survivalist maybe you have to expect the worst! It’s perhaps less relevant these days, we have many other things in place to help us survive, but back when we didn’t it may have been essential to always expect the worst.

  4. Interesting quote, Jackie. Makes one think and so do the comments. I like to think of myself as an optimist but know there is always fear lurking behind that smile. Maybe I’m cautiously optimistic? I want to believe that best will happen but after the 3rd expensive car repair you start to wonder. 🙂 Going to hang onto this one though. I so want to see the world in a positive state. Have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks, Marlene. I too would rather see the world at its best but know that I don’t always. Cautiously optimistic, yes, that fits me too. I know bad things are going to happen but know also I will survive them. Until I don’t…… 😉

  5. My philosophy is actually completely opposite of this quote. When you get what you expected, regardless of your take on life, it’s generally not going to affect your emotions too much. But when you’re wrong….. well, an optimist is left crushingly disappointed, while a pessimist will find themselves pleasantly surprised! That’s why I’d rather be the pessimist who finds himself wrong a lot! 😉
